[quote:lookingaround:MV85MzYzMTlfMTQ1MjEzMTlfMjU1NzY4OTQ=] [quote:jailarson] the following is plagerized from a random internet comment when I googled "How do I tell if something is silver" One sure way to tell if something is silver is to use a little diluted bleach on the item. If it turns dark then it is silver. I have some silver ware that are silver. I discovered this when I accidentally placed them in dish water with bleach in it. By the way, the other pieces of silverware did not turn, only the silver pieces.
Thanks, I will try that soon. I saw that one also, just wanted to see if there are any silverbugs here.
I bought a small tray at a thrift store, the only marking was "Made in Japan". It was also heavily tarnished. It was also not magnetic at all.
I used a propane torch to melt it all down. Now I have a 10oz pool of silver colored metal, that can be polished to a shine.
How can I test it to see what material it is?
