1072 pages of what to watch out for in a serious lockdown situation, especially in small-town America.
1. Local political authority figures seizing the opportunity to gather the power, wealth and resources for themselves. 2. Local law enforcement subservient to those political authority figures to the extent that they make no decisions for themselves. 3. A mass of people who will “go with the flow of what they know”; i.e. a herd of sheep who do what they’re told without a peep. 4. Some nut jobs who ally themselves with the current authority for expediency, but have their own, most likely pathological, agendas. 5. Some other nut jobs who defy authority to the point of being a danger to everyone else. Like the other nut jobs, these are focused on themselves and their holy mission, regardless of the long term effects or how it affects the group as a whole. 6. Members of “resistance” who are loudmouthed tell-alls who can’t seem to resist the urge to stick it to the authority, when they haven’t a clue just who they are dealing with or how dangerous those with authority can be. 7. There is little or no help coming from the outside. 8. Keep your pantries full and be ready to move on a moment’s notice. 9. Not everyone will live, but you can’t give up until you’re dead. 10. Randall Flagg, The Walkin’ Dude, is not responsible for all the evil in the world.
Some notes: - yes, I know it's fiction - yes, I realize Stephen King probably isn't a martial law expert - no, I'm not retarded - no, I don't spend my whole day watching porn and playing W.O.W
I tried not to provide any spoilers for those who are still reading or will read the book. It’s just that I kept thinking of GLP the whole time I was reading it.
