[quote:Anonymous Coward 886254:MV85NDg2MzVfMTU2MDYyMDZfMkYxREI0OUY=] [quote:Anonymous Coward 886254] Sounds kinda strange, but I did not develop decent muscles until I was 38. My arms got very big, and my hands and fingers got nice and big. I always had big legs because I was an alpine ski racer from age 4. Now I am 58 almost, and things are starting to shrink! :too_sad: Ironically it is people like you who benefit more from a deliberate strength increasing program compared to younger folk. Take it easy on the protein in your diet. Aim for high nutrient density with caloric restriction. 10 sets of 10 push-ups spaced throughout the day. Too many reps are a waste of time and too few with high loading will damage muscle. your sciatic nerve is like a onion as you lift and twist you tend to break the outer layers this is a normal progression with age and lifting, unless you bring the load closer to your body the and use your bodies attributes to move load, your manual handling needs attention before you make it to my stage, using suppressants for relief, i have done a grade three strain in my calf muscle and have incurred secondary complaints from that, believe me not comfortable at all.knots occur, and soft tissue damage,as you favor other muscles to do the lifts. i try break falls for falling down direct technic for controlling a fall. [/quote] i am 48 cut and look similar to any boxers profile,i did a arrangement of boxing and martial arts teach and trained extensively with clubs and every friend that was familiar with any art,i loved it,as i damaged my calf i believed with low impact exe i would recover, it`s obvious now that i don`t recover. my left leg that it occurred on has a ballooned calf and the foreleg has a ballooned muscle as i worked past that point,i can no longer do repetition lifting, i need to know my limits but that still does not sink in until another infliction occurs, at the moment i am unemployed again because of a lifting incident, even correct lifting practices, except for the weight of lift and awkwardness of size,as i was working as a storeman, the box states two man lift,as soon as i finish twenty lift of 67kgs my testicles felt like someone was squeezing tfot, in other companies i`ve have work at,i ran seminars on manual handling aspects,i knew better but the manpower and company prospective,is get on with it grunter,i was employed in management, and fill the gap in absenteeism, holiday`s and layoff`s and higher management knew of my situation, because it`s very plain to see.don`t be hyped by other intentions it`s your body. Looking unattractive is the least of your worries.
Physical strength particularly in arms and shoulders is a major defense during falls, which become increasingly an issue from 40 yrs onward. It could happen trying to change a light bulb whilst standing on a swivel chair, your strength will reduce the injury to the head from the corner of the table resulting in only a 1 month hospital stay instead of 3.
And where's your emergency reserve protein and minerals?
