[quote:Anonymous Coward 868675:MV85ODMzODBfMTU0MDY5NjRfNDY0MzI5NDE=] [quote:Sixty Acres] the sun is getting closer. noob. Link? .... or howcome you think so? [/quote] "We are nearing the point when the earth is farthest from the sun, aphelion. It was on or close to July 4, 2008. After that time, earth will be slowly getting closer to the sun until January 2 or there about, when earth reaches its closest point to the sun, called perihelion. At aphelion earth is traveling more slowly in its orbit; at perihelion it is traveling a little more rapidly. This is all related to the fact that earth's orbit around the sun is an ellipse and not a circle. Our orbit is close to circular, but it is not a perfect circle. For those in doubt (more than likely northerners who find it hard to believe that our summer is at a time when we are farther from the sun) the earth's seasons are caused by our axial tilt of about 23.4 degrees, and not by relative distance from the sun." I am near Abilene, Texas .... after many days of rain and overcast weather ... finally a day of Sunshine .... actually, extremely white sunshine... I have seen another thread somewhere about this but I don't remember if this was attributed to some naturally occurring phenomenon or if there was some, well, more "dark", GLP explanation for this!! hehe
At the age of nearly 45, I can honestly say that I do not ever recall this extreme white condition ... comments would be appreciated to explain this ...
