REGINA – Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating a claim that one of their members posted a racist comment on Facebook.
The Facebook post in question was a news story about a shooting that happened on the Sucker River First Nation, where a man fired gunshots at houses and cars around the reserve.
The comment, attributed in screen shots of the original Facebook post to a user named Anthony Setlack, said:
“Don’t worry, all drunk uneducated animals shooting at each other.”
Mounties became aware of the alleged post a few days ago and confirm that they do employ a member of the same name.
RCMP spokeswoman Mandy Maier says the force does have a social media policy which advises its members to consider their actions carefully.
Maier says officers are warned what they post can compromise their own integrity and credibility as well as the organization’s.
She says the policy covers conduct both on and off duty
As of Thursday morning it appeared that Setlack’s Facebook profile had been deleted.
RCMP are investigating all allegations.
