NZ baby milk scare shakes Chinese consumer confidence

New Zealand's biggest dairy exporter Fonterra has apologised for the distress caused because of a scare over contaminated products.

It emerged on Saturday that batches of whey protein contained bacteria that can cause botulism, resulting in a major recall of products from several countries.

Fonterra boss Theo Spierings made the apology in Beijing because China is the company's biggest export market.
