UH-OH: The Queen is said to be concerned about the shift in opinion [PA]

The nationalist Yes vote to give Scotland independence was down more than 22-points at the start of August

But a YouGov poll has now caused panic among unionists after it revealed the Yes vote is AHEAD by 51% to 49%.

It is believed her Royal Highness is now fearing for her position of power as she is set become the last Queen of Scotland if the Yes vote is passed.

“The Queen is a unionist, there is now a great deal of concern," a Buckingham Palace source told the Mirror.

“If there is a Yes vote that puts us into uncharted territory constitutionally . Nothing is certain and her being Queen of Scotland is not a given.”With just one month to go until the big vote, the polls begin to tighten.

The hotly debated subject has raised a number of questions about the how the UK would function without Scotland - including the Queen's role.

But another YouGov poll has found 54% of Scottish voters would want the Queen as their head of state while just 31% would opt for an elected leader.

PLAN: George Osborne has revealed a timetable of financial plans for Scotland [PA]

A Palace spokesperson announced the Queen was received daily updates on the matter and that she maintains "a close interest in the referendum".

Following the poll results last night, Chancellor George Osborne issued a statement to voters telling them that an independent Scotland would not share currency with the UK.

Mr Osborne said: “No ifs, no buts. We will not share the pound if Scotland separates from the rest of the UK,”

But he did reveal a new plan for Scotland's financial system, saying Scotland will have the "best of both worlds".

Talking to the BBC’s Andrew Marr show, he added: “You will see in the next few days a plan of action to give more powers to Scotland.

"More tax powers, more spending powers, more plans for powers over the welfare state. The timetable for delivering that will be put into effect the moment there is a no vote.”

He added: “The clock will be ticking for delivering those powers, and Scotland will have the best of both worlds.

“They will both avoid the risks of separation but have more control over their own destiny, which is where I think many Scots want to be.”

BRIBE: Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond has slammed Osborne's bribe [PA]

But Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, who is fronting the Yes campaign, said Osborne's message is just trying to "bribe" voters.

He said: “Are we expected to believe, after hundreds of thousands have already voted, that there’s a radical new deal?”

“They’re trying to bribe us, but it won’t work as they have no credibility left.”

Labour politician Alistair Darling said the polls are really heating up now but he is "very confident" the No campaign will be victorious on October 11.

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "I have always said that the polls will narrow because this is a huge debate.

"I believe that we will win this referendum because a majority of people in Scotland do want to ensure that there is a better and stronger future for themselves and the generations to come."
