San Francisco gunman threatens to go on shooting RAMPAGE amid furious police stand-off

POLICE were forced to evacuate a busy central San Francisco province when a gunman threatened to shoot himself and others in broad daylight.

The man was caught in a tense six-hour stand-off with local law enforcement as well as hostage negotiators and the SWAT team as he paced back and forth in an agitated state.

All motorists and pedestrians were asked to stay away from the area following a two block wide evacuation of the San Francisco Civic Centre and United Nations Plaza.

Police spokesman Carlos Manfredi revealed that the man had threatened to "use the gun on officers and on himself”

He was found to have been carrying a semi-automatic handgun

He added that the gunman had said he wanted to “end his life” and “take out other people”.

But after hours of negotiation the man, who has not yet been named, gave himself up peacefully causing no injuries.

At the time Mr Manfredi said: "As long as we have time to talk to this person, we have hope,"

He was later found to have been carrying a semi-automatic handgun.

After the arrest the police spokesman tweeted: “Suspect surrendered peacefully without further incident.

“Good work Crisis Negotiators & everyone out at the scene”.
