A terrified 10-year-old Indiana boy tearfully begged for help in a 911 call after his sister was shot in the head by their mother — who then killed herself.
“My sister has a hole in her head,” the little boy said in the three-minute call made public this week. “We don’t have money to get her stitches. I’m really scared.”
The call was made April 5 after Melissa Combs, 35, shot her daughter and committed suicide in Jeffersonville, Ind., authorities said. The call came into the 911 operator at about 6 a.m.
“My mom shot my sister in the head,” the boy declares.
“What’s wrong?” the operator replies.
A short conversation is barely audible in the background before the boy says that his sister “hit her head.”
“My mom’s passed out on the couch,” he continues. “She had a gun. I have no clue what the crap she did, but I’m really scared.”
Authorities responded to find Combs dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while the daughter was expected to survive after treatment at Kosair Children’s Hospital.
