Most of them are called 'Self Storage' aren't they?

You could sub-let space to the illegals to make some money. Like the corporations do.

I havn`t heard of anyone living in one, they usually have locked gates and buisness hours 8-8 or so.

I did have a friend a few years back that put all his shit in storage when he was homless. He kept a freezer inm there just packed with food.

They usually have one light bulb in each unit, remove the light bulb and get an adaptor from the hardware store that screw`s in there, then the bulb screw`s in the adaptor. The adaptor has outlets in the side where you can tap into their power.

These places know people are doing this and if you go on their websites you will see a disclaimer that says you and your property will be removed from the premises if they catch you using it as a living space.

I think I'm gonna start a business that does that...

Buy a big piece of land nearby the city and build storage units with electricity I would rent to people.

I got all pissed at my wife one night, and went and slept in my travel trailer which is in a storage unit.

How cheaper can rent be? 50-60$ a month...that's fucking cheap.

And really, do you need more than a bed and a place to cook?

You need to wash yourself... but there's public bathrooms in most cities.

If you can afford a storage unit, then you can afford a cheap tent to get you by. That way, there are no rules. Come and go as you please.

They're not that cheap. At least where I live you can't seem to find one for less than 100-120/mo. At that rate just rent a room somewhere - Check craigslist OP.

I've lived in a warehouse a time or two. I always looked for one that had a bathroom, usually just a sink and a toilet. I got lucky one time and I rented one that had a shower built into it but no hot water. No problemo, I hired a plumber and had him install a 5 gallon water heater and he ran the pipes on the outside of the wall. I lived there for 2 years and I loved it. It was nice and quiet on the weekends and at night because it was in an industrial area and most other warehouses closed for business on the weekends and after 5 during the week. The other business owners liked having me there because I offered a sort of security, just by being there.

Anyone thinking of building a storage unit and then allowing people to use it to live in, has no idea the trouble they will be in when the Gov. finds out.

The fines will make sure you never attempt such a venture ever again.

The Gov doesn't really give a rat's ass about poor people so don't try using the excuse that you were just trying to help out.

About 15 years ago I lived in a rental storage unit, non climate controlled. It was a 10 x 30 and I paid about $110 a month for it. It had a lightbulb that I replaced with a screw in adaptor. I build a wall about 10 feet in, with a door. I had to find a place that had 24 hr access. They are out there. I had a motorcycle for transportation and would drive it in, park in the front room and enter the back room through my door. Inside there, I had shelves and all my possessions stored. I had a desk with my computer. No internet, but I could play on my computer. I had a futon set up in the middle of the room and a pop tent on top of it. I slept in the tent to keep spiders and other bugs off me at night when I slept. I had 2 cats that stayed with me in there for about a year, while I saved up money to put a down payment on a house.

I took showers at trucks stops, local campgrounds, and friends houses. I achieved my goal and have since gotten married and bought a new house. I look back with fondness on my storage shed experience, and you will too.

I don't suggest it if you have a wife or kids. People get divorced for much less. :-)

Ive been doing fine without a storage unit, camping in my van during these last 7 months.

showers at homeless shelters and truck stops and one day gym pass.

all my stuff fits nice - the van is the way to go - free wifi at libraries or coffee places

need good weather though not too cold

invertor and extra battery to charge laptop and cell phone

places to pull over and sleep are easy

no need for cooking - raw diet

breakfast - almond butter, honey and banana on whole wheat
lunch tuna on whole wheat
dinner? what's that....LOL.... sometimes I don't need it, just munch on healthy snacks

been doing this for 7 months and enjoying less is more

Get up and out at dawn. be invisible as much as you can. Wash at gas stations. at parks, etc. you can do it. at the very least for awhile. if found, try another one! storage room sitters are not too bright, figure it out. or, work a deal! live there storage people have not much of a life, they can not leave....so offer them something! if you can get to a point with them that they trust you...then "house sit" for them while they are gone. believe this from what i know about these types of people, situations are available if u can work it. good luck!
