Wisdom Teeth and Your Health.
Hey, I am 39 and had my wisdom teeth out on Saturday.

I was told two years ago, that if I had my wisdom teeth out, it would be "too dangerous". I was "too old and too fat". I didn't get them done because of the humiliation, and I felt probably, on a daily basis, weird. I also felt dizzy and had ear and balance problems. I took tons of benedryl and other meds to feel clear. I felt overall yuck.

Well, on Monday, I started to get a severe pain in my neck and throat. I was so dizzy and miserable. I felt the pain in my jaw. I actually had been having migraines and feeling like I was dying. So, this swollen neck was scary. i decided to go to the dentist. He looked in my mouth and said my wisdom teeth were rotten and infected. I had to immediately take penicillin in megadoses. I had my teeth out on Saturday morning. It took fifteen scary minutes. I went home and bled like all day. Drooling blood.

But something amazing happened, the pain in my neck went away in two hours. One day later, I have no pain at all and even though my wounds are raw, i have not felt so alert and alive in years. It was these fucking teeth all along. if you feel weird, PLEASE check your teeth. Doctors will not help you. Meanwhile, you could suffer from diabetes and heart trouble from bad teeth.

You're on your own in America with dental and anything else for that matter. Help yourself. i should not have let that asshole shame me into not getting help else where. You don't need an oral surgeon. it only takes a few minutes and cost only 450 dollars. i have spent more on shitty meds that didn't help.

yeah i recently narrowed down the source of my facial pain and ear ringing to my teeth.

Re: Wisdom Teeth and Your Health.
15 minutes?? Lol, try being there for 2 hours while the dentist slices open 2 inches of gum so she can drill out what's left of a tooth, as well as hacking out a stack of bone and leaving you inflated, bruised and stitched up. $600 later, my pain is gone: AMAZING!
Even more amazing is that that milimetre of tooth wasn't causing me any pain at all but i was told it was in my best interest to get it removed.
My wisdom teeth? They grew like normal teeth, no pain at all. I did get them removed just for the fun of it to give a dental student practise at no cost.
Dentists are theives...

Actually, mine grew out so slowly. I had an impacted one that I had surgically removed at 25. it was extremely painful. I didn't fully recover until the next day. i think the anesthesia is what makes people miserable. I was so scared that it would be bad like you described but I was literally out the door at 9:23.

i've had a root infection and yes its the worst pain. The dentist suggested the apart from the intense pain, your overall health is affected because your immune system is constantly fighting the infection..way before you feel great pain.

I'm glad it all went well :) If teeth roots wrap themselves around nerves, then removal can cause permanent loss of sensation. It happened to someone I know. I hate wisdom teeth!

Re: Wisdom Teeth and Your Health.
ugh I had one that had grown up into my sinus and the root was in the bone and had to be sawed out. How is that for horror. That was last fall. My sinuses do feel better now though! I used to get sinus headaches more frequently.I hate going to the dentist but I do. They do important work.

Re: Wisdom Teeth and Your Health.
I had a root canal for a destroyed tooth (broke in half).
Luckily, I felt no pain. The next day I went to the dentist and he told me that the nerve must have died years ago from a major infection. He asked me if I remembered any severe pain in that tooth, ever. Nope.

He told me that some people told him they'd rather have another child birth than feel that kind of pain.
I never felt anything that bad. I know for a while whenever I ate too much sugar it would start to hurt, but otherwise I felt nothing.

My sister says it is because our side of the family has a high tolerance of pain. Could be true, I have no idea, and no way to really compare the feeling of pain to someone elses as their reaction could be more mental pain than physical.

Oh well. I've had 1 tooth rebuilt (root canal after it broke) and another capped.
I might need another one capped, but it hasn't changed color or started to smell, just hurts if I apply too much pressure. No sugar-caused pain, though.

I'm rambling... I'll stop now.

your tolerance to pain is facinating. I wonder if it makes a person less fearful. How do you go with emotional pain?

I tend to go through emotional withdrawals. I was told by a friend that it looks more like PTSD, but without the fear or flashbacks. The blank, thousand-yard stare, and lack of emotional response.

I can almost do it on demand, but it takes a few minutes to kick in. Feels like I'm on autopilot, except I'm still all there.

Happened a lot after the death of my mom when I was 12. It sucked. I didn't even really "notice" until about 3 months later in March. Then I broke down and started crying.
Worst year of my life. No christmas, no birthday, no mother, no one around. I guess after that, and years of watching horror movies and playing violent video games, it doesn't even scratch the surface anymore.
Kind of doesn't help that I'm also schizophrenic. Not the hallucinatory, delusional, paranoid kind. Though, if I don't get enough sleep I do have delusions. Nothing violent, and I know it is going on but I can't stop myself. And no, I'm not taking anything for it.

And once again, I am rambling...
Gah...

I let in enough to keep a balance.
I'm in more of a grey area than most, trying my best to take no sides but my own.

The problem pops up when others try to take away the things I enjoy (sleeping, video games, watching TV, creating complex war scenarios, etc). After long as I can keep the balance I will not snap, and I will remain as kind and passive as can be. But if someone crosses me, and pushes me too far... I have hit a girl in the head with a brick, and hit another guy in the head with a wieght bar. Among other, worse, incidents. I'd rather not do so again.

One of the reasons I don't take medicine. If the balance is tilted, I'm not sure what I would do. And with self-trained Marine and FBI close-combat training, and firearms training, I'm rather not find out...
(One thing is for sure, Pelosi better hide XD)
