This is not Lewis Carroll's Wonderland. Hell, this isn't even Disney's Wonderland. Rather than the fine episodic tales presented in the original works, or the woefully inaccurate yet appealing animated movie, this is a story of a young woman learning to make her own way in the world, not living life to please others, using Wonderland as a backdrop. Burton takes elements from Carroll's works, tosses them in a blender, and pours them out into a mold more fitting his vision as a director and storyteller. Unfortunately it's a mold he's used far too often, and the ingredients he adds to help make the story his own - his wife, the Mad Hatter's origin story, and renaming Wonderland to Underland - feel forced rather than natural.

How can anyone enjoy the mangling of a classic? IT'S NOT EVEN CALLED WONDERLAND IN THE BLOODY MOVIE!!!! How burton gets away with calling it Alice in Wonderland when he has changed the name in the movie to underland is beyond me.

Every one of burton's movies is just the Nightmare before Christmas, slightly upgraded with a slightly different story and graphics. I will never watch one of his piece of crap movies.

For anyone who is interested in watching something TRUE to Lewis Carrol's classic tale, wait a few months for Marilyn Manson's "Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carrol" to be released. It may not have a huge budget or have 1,000,000 hours of CGI work put into it, but at least it will be true to Lewis Carrol and not some abomination made for sheeple.

So you DO know that this is not supposed to be a retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland, or even the Disney animated version, right?
That this is like a sequel? Alice goes back to Wonderland when she's older and everything has changed. That's why it's called Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and not Lewis Carroll's. It's a new story. Ya know, like the sequel to Gone with the Wind(and yes there was one also by a different author).
Now you can argue over whether he should have done that or not, or whether the movie is any good, but you can't compare it to the original story because it's not!

So.. ANYWAYS. The point is, don't miss this amazing movie. The technology in the 3D is incredible, see it for that if nothing else. You'll see a preview for the movie TRON. LOOKS SICK! It's some kind of futuristic battle sport thing. Again the 3D technology is just unreal.

Well, it's March and I think this is going to be an interesting month. On March 5th you've got another dark Alice project coming out of Disney's culture creation program. Well it starts out in old fashioned England. Alice and her Mom in a carriage. At one point, Alice's Mom tells her she is not properly dressed, she doesn't have her corset on. Alice asks her Mom, "If proper were wearing a codfish on your head, would you do it?" I knew I was going to love the movie from that point on.

Basically the queen represents TPTB, but also represents the Queen of England, herself. She has a Castle full of slaves, and walks all over them all. Her knight, has a very reptilian like scale armor that is worth thinking about, if you're familiar with the reptilian legends. She is portrayed with a BIG head, literally. She's considered "the bloody red queen." She's pretty funny actually. "OFF WITH HIS HEAD!" she never hesitates to shout. I remember one "off with his head!" victim was represnting whistle blowers who the government have taken out for taking the people's side. But she uses all of her slaves, until they eventually all stop listening to her. No one is happy but the Queen.

There are many lines throughout the movie that have TPTB meanings in between them.

At the end the Dragon is slayed. The dragon means so much more than a dragon.

Also, they make it a point to Alice, that this is Underland, not Wonderland. This metaphor is huge, to me. I won't influence your thoughts but that part stuck out to me. Remember Underland is where the queen has rule over her slaves, it's not Wonderland.

Also, what really stuck out is Alice's 6 things that she believed in that seemed to be impossible.

1. A drink that makes you smaller.

2. A cake that makes you grow.

3. Animals can talk.

4. A cat that can disappear.

5. There's a place called Wonderland.

6. She can slay the dragon.

The movie is incredible, the meaning and beauty is something no one should miss out on.

I'm taking 3 little girls to see it next week. Two of them are 10 and one is 8 or 9. Is it too vivid or scary for the younger one? She doesn't have the maturity level of the others and I kinda wondered about how she'd like it.

If you are old enough, you may decipher some info out of it, but the 3-D creates reality for your child's brain that they are not strong enough to bypass the programming.
