your kind of a ass-hole are't you. a little harsh, i think a lot of people thought it was ran by the gov.

A couple of years ago about three weeks before Christmas, I noticed we had not gotten any mail for four days. It stood out to me because I was expecting an important piece of mail. I happened to be coming home as the mail truck arrived on day four, so I waited in the driveway. The mail carrier was only two doors down. Anyway, he speeds on by the house and I note that he is not our regular carrier.

Anyway, I called the post office a bit later and mentioned we had not gotten mail in several days and how unusual that was. In my mind I was thinking even junk mail would have shown up by then. But I only mentioned the mail we were expecting.

The lady on the phone says "Maam, you sometimes you have to order catalogs, they are not automatic."

WTF? Who said anything...anyway I told her it was business mail.

So then she says our carrier just walked in. She asked him about it, and he told her to tell me that we just don't get much mail.

That next monday, we got so much mail our regular carrier could barely stuff it in the box. My piece of mail that I had been expecting was there.

I have no problem with my mail being delivered 3 days per week - it makes sense to me.

The Postal Workers Union will fight it tooth and nail...

It is more about feds snooping & total control of the mail, and feds coming by the house every day.

Once a week is plenty for most. And NO junk mail or advertising. Cutting junk mail would reduce the work load dramatically.

If we want to buy something we can look for it without being solicited.

It is all about CONTROL. They want everyone off paper and cash - once that is done, they will have us by the short hairs.

Tell the average American how much money the government will save by reducing mail to 3 times per week and they will demand it, never stopping to think about the repercussions. It is similar to the TV switch from analog to digital - CONTROL.

Exactly, the garbage can next to the mailboxes at my apartment complex is FULL and overflowing with junk mail. People don't even bother taking it into their home, they just toss it out right there. I do too, and after getting rid of the junk mail, the stack I pulled from my box is reduced by 3/4.

So will the postal workers only be paid for 3 days as opposed to 5 or whatever they are paid for now? If not then it really wont make much of a difference.

My guess: lots of layoffs, and maybe a combination of the two.

Offer part time to some, layoffs to others...

The internet has changed their lot, most of them "slow down" to keep their 5 day per week job. In a time of money troubles, they will be pared down.

Just the way it is for most folks.

I have many family in the post office.

I don't understand the talk about it being part of the government. Even though my family are in a union, they are considered federal government employees. (read the sign when you walk into the PO about what happens when you rob the clerk) anyway, the PO is operated like a business, but it is part of the government. At least, it is your money going to fill in the red gap when it fails.

There are a few people that work prety slow there. And the supervisors, well, let's just say most glp ac's could be supervisors, and no that isn't a compliment.

Personally, I would rather see the postal service ran as private business like by UPS or something. Back when this country was founded, Mail was the only communication. There weren't telephones, internet, you probably couldn't even send out a morse code back then. The government wanted to make sure you could communicate.

Perhaps Postal service has seen it's day.
