Hi AJK, can you look at the ingredients and see if it has TBHQ as an ingredient? Quoting: Nine'sYep, has it. It reads: "Soybean, Palm and Palm Kernal oil with TBHQ for freshness." I swear these things made me sick. Started late the other night, had the cookies (after a meal), and then few hours later had a stomachache. I chalked it up to too much eating at the time, and eating late. That was till last night. I ate 1 of the cookies, just 1, and then later got a stomachache again! Oh, I've never seen them before (but then I'm in Canada). Really, baking your own isn't as time consuming or expensive as you'd think. Just slightly under-cook them for that "chewiness" and seal them in a container after they've cooled down. They freeze really well, too. You can also replace organic coconut oil for butter, etc.; it makes for a really tasty, soft cookie. The slight coconut flavour enhances the taste of the chocolate. |

I baked my last batch of chocolate chip cookies with both honey and coconut oil, and they were soft, but the texture was slightly off. I'm definitely going to try again, though; chocolate chip cookies are my favorite, and if I can make them "healthy", then I'll eat them every day! lol Actually, I also made a batch with whole wheat flour and added some ground flax; I know it sounds gross, but they were REALLY good. The texture was slightly different, but in a good way. Obviously, the colour is slightly darker, but that's just aesthetics. I shared that batch with the family to see what they thought, and they were all shocked how good "whole wheat and flax chocolate chip cookies" (with coconut oil) turned out. I just find that you need to add more flour or they tend to be rather flat. |
