so as I understand it sand boxing is a technique of isolating that part of your computer that is surfing the net. So even if you pick up a virus it will only affect that small isolated space. And every time you log off you can wipe it clean totally.

I am far from a computer expert, just wondering if anybody has tried it and if it works?

I have the paid version of AVG, but the upgraded AVG seems to have a conflict with XP. That's why I'm thinking about switching to AVAST sandbox

Tazz runs exclusive MAC for personal needs, I also maintain a Unix server ( ubuntu server ) and an experimental Linux Box for hosting an internal file server linked to my Xbox. ( watching movies ). HOW EVER, I occasionally deal with windows based computers * shudders * and when I do, with out passing go, the FIRST thing I do when I touch a windows system is Download AVAST.

AVAST is FREE, and powerful. My favorite feature is Boot Time Scan. I can't count how manny times a friend or "customer" has brought me a " norton protected PC " that Avast quickly found and destroyed *insert bad word here*.

V.IRUS writers are getting smart, and they sometimes have the ability now to actually MOVE themselves during an active scan so the computer never finds them. This is where Boot Time Scan becomes your best friend. AVAST will scan the computer from a Dos Promt ( not really, but for sake of argument ) BEFORE windows loads. on the windows start-up screen. This will catch the little buggers before they have a chance to "wake up" with windows. Its the ONLY anti-V solution thats totally free that I have found that does this, and it does it well... I recommend to all, get AVAST. or better yet, switch to unix / linux / or mac.

I have the free version. I don't see any "sandbox". Is this for paid-fors, only? I like AVAST well enough, but I use five anti-virus programs (all of the free ones). If something gets missed, the other one finds it. Works for me.

this can be bad too... I have seen Anti-V programs actually DEL each other thinking they are a Virus. AVG is ok, Housecall is OK, the new Microsoft one thats free is OK, -atleast it doesn't try to disable windows firewall. lol - BUT, still I personally prefer AVAST for windows environments only because of "boot time scan" its pointless to run a scan from windows when the *bad words* are running. spy.w , mal.w , etc. you gotta scan with a bootable usb / linux live CD outfitted with AVAST for Linux, OR simply install it and run boot time scan. only way to be sure and get them all. that i have found... my two cents... Any way on average I fix about 5 computers a week, so thats my personal take on it...

Hi,

I have tested and tried many antivirus software n its bcoz I fix computers .
I am always looking for an antivirus that works
My advice is nothing secures you 100% against the kittens that can protect u against zero day kittens and there is a kittens coming out on the web every sec.
Best option is to use a Programme that uses HIPS or Sandbox
or
You can use MSE, Avast, Avira or any other free
AV with the free sandbox software called Sandboxie and virtualize your browser.

As far as Avast 5 is concerend it is a good AV but its Sandbox is only avialable in Pro version and it has some bugs.

I totally agree. The only time it failed my puter was something that only Kapersky found.

Avast is excellent, and doesn't slow down the puter. I've used it for years. Hands down, the best.
