The average shoe size is on the rise in USA | |

According to the National Shoe Retailers Association, the average shoe size has increased by a full size over the past 30 years. While the best-selling size for ladies used to be a 7.5, it's now an 8.5. The average shoe size for dudes has increased from 9.5 to a 10.5. Apparently our feet are growing longer and wider over time, but no one can pinpoint exactly why. It could be due to the hormones in our food, or maybe that younger generations have grown up wearing sturdier shoes that were better for our feet. Michael Weiss, the national retail director for women's shoes at Nordstrom thinks that comfy shoes like clogs and Crocs have caused our feet to spread. What doesn't help matters is that nearly four in 10 women buy shoes knowing they don't fit, according to the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. Is this because we want the shoes so badly that we'll buy them even though they don't fit us properly, or are stores just not carrying our sizes? Hmmm. My issue is that I wear an 8.5 and my size is always sold out first! What is your biggest footwear gripe? Oh, and for those of you who have an above average shoe size, I have some good news for you. This article I read in the Chicago Tribune offered up some really great shoe shopping sites that go all the way up to a size 15 or 16 and carry a great range of widths. My husband wears a size 13 1\2 triple E, they are still hard to find, the ones that look good and fit well. The more clothes cost, designers clothes, the smaller the clothes sizes, I know that, because in regular clothes that aren't real high priced, I wear a size 6 to 8 in some, higher price size 3. So you just got to figure some one is getting ripped of on their size, and it isn't the poorer folks. |

Had to go to the 12-13 year olds and could only get a 10. WTF? When I played in 1987, a 9 was about average and almost no one had a 12-13. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 15461953 United States 07/19/2013 10:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 5'10 with size 11 feet since high school my height now makes me short to the women I am seeing but my feel are till big but narrow compared to most women. My mom though has now gone from a size 8 to an 11 wide over night she is only 5'6. At first her weight was normal when she got these big feet now she is overweight after the fact. Mutation? I already have 2 mutations since birth sectoral heterochromia and a simian line on my right hand. No answer but there is more going on than the simple gmo overweight answer methinks. ;) |
