May 05 - Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower Peak

May 07 - Asteroid 2005 GJ Near-Earth Flyby (0.053 AU)

May 07 - Asteroid 2005 GE60 Near-Earth Flyby (0.060 AU)

Re: MAY 2005 NEAR-EARTH OBJECTS
Well, they´rwe all going to miss, so why the "uh oh"?

The only reason we get so many reported nowadays is because we have better ways of finding them. We´ve no idea how many close calls we had 20 years ago, but it was certainly just as many as we get every year. We just didn´t know about them.

Re: MAY 2005 NEAR-EARTH OBJECTS
1 Astronomical Unit = 149 598 000 000 meters
or
1 Astronomical Unit = 92 955 807 miles

Distance from earth to the sun is about 1 AU.

Distance from earth to moon today is 233 058 miles or 0.0025071 AU.

.053, .060,.016 are distances beyond the moon´s orbit of the earth.

Thanks for encouraging the astronomy lesson.
