The precessional cycle or the great year, as it is also called, was well known by nearly all our ancestors, this is then split into 12* 2000 year age's and grouped into 4 worlds of three ages, a creator age, a saviour age and a destroyer age.
Civilizations have a habit of rising then collapsing over these approx 6k years called worlds.
With the knowledge of the interstellor cloud, aka "fluff" as nasa has named it, and that we are moving into it, I'm thinking that this could be the destroyer which will facilitate electricial connections with the sun and thus we get our plasma light show, our thunderbolts and we start our civilization again in the next cycle of the creator.

Something happened 5 to 6k years ago and it traumatised the survivors into marking the event in stone as a memory marker for future generations idk.
