Is Ham Radio boring as hell?
I downloaded an app for my iPhone called 5-0 Radio which streams scanner feeds. It also has a section for ham radio repeaters so I was curious and listened in. I thought maybe I would find some GLP & George Ure types discussing cool things like on here.

Instead I found a bunch of dull dopes discussing the weather and walking their dog. Is this the extent of ham radio these days. Christ it made me want to slit my wrists.

Are CB radios any more fun?

Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

It depends. You get what you got a lot. But during emergencies and serious storms like hurricanes it could be interesting.

Also, if TSHTF then you'll be able to communicate further than with a CB. The repeaters will prob get shut down but with the right conditions you can still go a lot further than CB.

Short Wave radio might be more important so you can get news from other parts of the world.

Ham can of course be listened on by anyone with a receiver so I wouldn't use for any secret meetings or anything.

Also, you're prohibited by law from swearing or discussing any type of business deals over it, but you're not on CB.

Years ago I had a neighbor that put up a 50' tall antenna so he could plop his fat ass in a chair and run his foul mouth on his radio...and that's cool if it didn't bleed into my stereo and teach my three year old every single way to use the phrase "motherfucker" known to man...

I finally told him I would drag his tower down while pointing to my F350 diesel truck if I heard anymore bleed through in my house...That's what it came down to after a few months of arguing and me recording his dumb ass, plus calling the FCC...

Actually dummy, your implication that Ham is boring was almost totally drowned out by the fact that your post is all fucked up. If picking one's nose is the only thing more exciting than Ham radio...implies picking one's nose is exciting. Get it?

You should have said, "The only thing Ham radio can trump is picking your nose."

Btw, I don't think I have ever even heard Ham radio.

I dont find Ham people stupid at all. It takes some effort to get your Ham license/s.

If you are not into it, that's ok. But most Hams I have met were quite knowledgable.

And like what was posted above, in emergencies, Ham radio is
important.

Just my 2 cents. I enjoy the hobby.

I've only known one Ham operator (as far as I know). He was a very well-spoken Geography lecturer here in England. I was only there a couple of times when he was doing his Ham thing and to be honest, I didn't find it that exciting.

It looked pretty 'serious' though. I don't think he would have put up with any bad language or messing about. Maybe it's changed?

There are some that are great conversationalist and actually capable of talking about interesting topics.
Yes some are fat , lazy and drunks but most are really cool people.
The drunks and assholes well who cares about them ...no one...they dont even care about thier own self.
Listen for me on the bands I can even bring some intelligent responses from the dull , stupid , misinformed , and most anal hams out there.

Yeah, hams are like a bunch of old maids and I've been one since 1980. If you say the least controversial thing, you will be shunned. Maybe reported to the dreaded ARRL or FCC. CB radio is wide open but not so many around anymore. Too many cellphones and internet being used instead.

I used to run RTTY (Radioteletype) which means what I typed on a keyboard would show up at the station's I was working monitor or printer. That was back in the day (pre-internet) and it was sort of a big deal. Now days little 6 year Timmy can text his grannie half way around the world on his cell phone.
