Unemployment at all time highs yet Shaws Union employees on strike
These self serving Union reps push employees into striking due to small raises and having kick a little more in for health care. I work in the health care sector and I had to start paying 200%, up from 15% for my health care. I had to give back a week of vacation and accrue a week less this past year yet I am happy to have my job.

I see these Shaws employees striking over better terms than I was offered last year, with their lack of real skills they should be damn lucky they had a job.

These self serving union reps are only looking out for themselves. No wonder these US compainees are outsourcing and taking in migrant workers.

A 20% increase is nothing compared to the quadrupling of our contributions. Yes I said QUADRUPLING. Would you agree to go from $30 a week to $135 a week for a reduced level of coverage? That contribution rate is what shaw's is charging the scabs.
If we (the unions) cave in to corporate greed you realize that it rolls downhill and everyone suffers by having to pay more. The unions help set the standards that non union companies have to try to compare to.
We are not greedy animals. We are human beings that deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Supervalu (owner of shaw's) is using this to set a case precedent on how to deal with unions. I would rather take a job shoveling $hit that to go back under the current conditions being treated like $hit.
You should research what unions are about before you go trashing them. Do you have weekends off? Do you have a 40 hour workweek? Do you get LABOR DAY as a paid holiday? You're welcome.

than thou preaching attitude....40 hour work week? Oh thank you
so so much...and thanks right back at you! You've done a wonderful
job destroying the American automobile industry, remember the American steel industry? Gone! Nice work unions! Keep up the good work! Friggin morons.

Re: Unemployment at all time highs yet Shaws Union employees on strike
In times of high unemployment, all workers are treated worse. The cost of labor is always too high and there is a perpetual struggle against the value of labor.

You think that because there is high unemployment, the people who have jobs should be treated like shit? You blame the unions for destroying american jobs, but hold a special place in your heart for the bankers and the wall street wizards?

Should nurses work seventy hour weeks because corporate owned, for profit hospitals refuse to hire additional staff? If ten nurses work 70 hour weeks, that means they working a surplus of 210 total hours. Those extra hours could be jobs for other people. How many of these nurses will burn out and quit from working too many hours for too many years, so that the shareholders can get their dividends?
