FYRoM covets the Macedonian name for country-name, nationality, language and ethnicity...Identity factors which do not bode well the South-Slavs, which has plunged the fledgling country into an Identity crisis manifested in a name dispute with Greece over the use of a name, FYRoM has freely chosen for self-determination purposes. The problem for FYRoM is this: The country cannot enter the EU or NATO under it's freely chosen name of Republic of Macedonia on the basis, the political will to integrate FYRoM into the Euro-Atlantic economic and security area has all but fizzled out. The benefits for doing so have become minor to insignificant.

The general area of the Balkans have proven difficult to develop into something the West would recognise as being economically feasable or worthwhile. Plan after plan for restructuring the region, getting the right political parties on-side never materialized. Had this part of the planning been achieved, the pay-off for the West would have manifested in a peace dividend at the end, but none of these things were achieved and none are likely or foreseable as ever being achieved.

FYRoM is kept at arms length, at a distance because bringing it closer to the West benefits no-one! Politicians from across the political divide have abandoned the FYRoM cause as being unachievable. Integrating the country into Western economic and security structures have proven to be far to difficult. The stumbling block...The Macedonian name.

FYRoM's freely chosen name for self-determination is the one-singlemost factor which keeps the country from achieving it's Euro-Atalantic aspirations. It was a mistake for FYRoM to get into historical debates with Greece over Macedonian issues relating to the classical period, the roman period and the medievil period, when everything that we know has been long established and academically approved. Arguments with Greece over these historical matters are in fact, arguments with academia.

Greece politicised the academic world with significant numbers of historian scholars openly suporting the Greek positions visa vie, the name dispute issue. Politicians have their hands tied...they are unable to go against the teachings of academia on matters Macedonian. Their influence in championing the FYRoM cause cannot be tarnished by historical-revisionism and pseudo-history, the two main pillars on which FYRoM's so called Macedonian Identity rests upon!
