why do so many people hate Jehovah's Witnesses?

After years of observation, I'm truly inclined to say.. maybe they really are who they are.. At least I've never seen any other christian denomination that fulfills the biblical prerequisites for true christians. And the Jesus clearly says that his true followers would be hated. So, looks like a pretty damned good confirmation.

On top of that, there's how they handled the first and second world wars - more than one military or government representative was impressed by their piety and sincerity, just like many ongoing examples today. Officials are always astounded when the hold their assemblies.. there can be anywheres upwards of 60000 people in a stadium and not a single case of theft, rude behavior or violence and they leave the stadium cleaner than it was when they arrived.

I've read lots of interviews of all sorts of personages including hard-core atheists that vouch for their integrity and if they were ever to "choose a religion" it would be "theirs" because there's no hocus pocus involved and reflects a sensible way to live, even if the "rest" were'nt true.

To adress a few issues of biblical criteria they fulfill:

- They really do what the Bible says
- They use the Bible exclusively to answer questions that arise in Bible study, only using historical records and don't philosophize or project dogmas (as the Bible says you should do)
- They pray to the Father (YHWH, "he who causes to become() through Jesus and not to some unnamed God that could be just about anything out there
- They preach profusely and for free
- They preach about the BIBLE and the GOOD news of the coming kingdom of Christ, and not the details of how Satan's system works (Don't load you down with crap like some other "christian" sites etc. I've seen in the 'Net)
- They are politically neutral (No JW ever voted or engaged in an act of terrorism or war - like Jesus commanded)
- They meet regularly, as the Bible says (many "christians" don't even go to church any more)
- There is no hierarchy within their organisation except for strictly organisational purposes, there are no people "holier" than you, so to speak. No Bishops or Popes that are "closer to God than you will ever be"...

Jesus said, you will recognize his true followers "by their fruits"...

Gee.. I'm going out on a limb here, but I'd say a good catholic is a pretty good base for a JW to start out from.

Yeah, a lot of JW's are nice people. Nice people that don't believe Jesus is God. They can do their thing, I'm just saying it isn't Christian.

I come from a generational family of JW's (great-grandparents on one side, grandparents on the other), here's some inside info most people don't know.

The Witnesses aren't a religion, but a corporation. They are The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society Inc., and they have predicted Armageddon numerous times. First they said 1914, then 1918, then they said that in 1925 Abraham, Isaac, etc would be resurrected and fleeced their flock out of money to build a mansion for them (but really the mansion was for the leaders of the corporation). In the late 1800's and early 1900's they believed in Pyramidology, the study of the pyramids to extrapolate biblical events.They proclaimed until the 1950's that Jehovah resided in the star system Pleiades.

In the 70's, they advised their flock in their publications to sell their homes because Armageddon was coming in 1975. When that failed, they had many people leave. Up until the late 80's, they sold the Watchtower and Awake magazines door to door, but were forced to switch to a 'donation' only method after they almost got their tax exempt status revoked.

They are a cult that is mentally and emotionally abusive to children. I know this first hand. They even print their own book which is a supposed "history" of the religion, but which whitewashes all of the failed prophecies of Armageddon. When asked how a religion that was made so many false prophecies isn't a false prophet, they refer to the biblical passage of "The Light gets brighter and brighter", implying that they were mistaken because we are simply humans interpreting God's word, and that false prophecies does not make one a false prophet.

It's truly circular logic that they employ.

Also, when I was 10 years old, I had a run-in with a lawnmower, and lost my big toe and half my second toe on my left foot. My parents were ready and willing to let me die had I been in need of a blood transfusion. Luckily though, I didn't lose too much blood and was able to live, despite the cult's teachings.

I despise them because my life was saved by a blood transfusion. These blinded people would let a child die rather than let him/her live by receiving blood. That is why legal intervention is necessary to prevent such child abuse. They twist the Biblical verse that we should abstain from eating/drinking blood, to mean that a transfusion is a sin.

They are a joyless group who will not even celebrate Christmas or birthdays in their misguided narrow interpretation of the Bible.

Nor will they permit their children to recite the Lord's Prayer in school in areas (such as parts of Canada) where the school day begins with the reading of this prayer over the loudspeaker system. JW children not only will not participate in this prayer (even though it is in the new Testament as Christ's guidance for appropriate prayer and they claim to be Christian, which they most certainly are not!) but they will not stand quietly during the prayer and some children are forced by their parents to leave the classroom and stand outside the door in the corridor when the prayer is being recited.

This is total BS. They have what's called the 'Governing Body', and group of old men that rake in profits of the corporation they run, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. They are charlatans. The local churches have 'Elders', essentially priests who have full control over the lives of their flock, dictating who they can associate with. My own brother wants desperately to be inducted into their cult headquarters at Bethel, NY, where he'll work for free in their factories producing their magazines. My cousin is continually harassed by the Elders because she married/divorced a "worldly" person, someone not in the religion, and had a child with him. They are always threatening to "Disfellowship" her and have her family shun her forever if she doesn't routinely attend their brainwashing meetings 3 times a week.

This is partially incorrect. Officially, they are NOT Jehovah's Witnesses, but rather the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society Inc, they are a corporation, not a religion. Jehovah's Witnesses is just the title they use when trying to fleece hard working people out of their money as 'donations' for their magazines.

For anyone that's truly interested in the behind the scenes happenings of this corporation (The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society Inc), one of the former members of their 'Governing Body' eventually saw the error of his ways and wrote a book called 'Crisis of Conscience', I'd highly recommend checking it out. This thread has a lot of falsehoods about their corporation (I know, being from a generational family of JW's), but most of the misinformation is about their doctrinal teachings. But doctrinal teachings are just semantics, the true dirt on them is the behind the scenes politics of the corporate board, the Governing Body, and all the failed prophecies throughout the last 125+ years.

Ultimately its a matter of personal decision. Contrary to popular belief, no one is "pressured" into anything, for what its worth, I've witnessed such a situation personally.

Furthermore, top physicians will tell you flat out that they always take a blood transfusion as a last resort. Bloodless is the gold standard.

As someone who experienced the possibility of being allowed to die at the hands of my parents, I disagree with you. They ARE pressured into letting their children die, or else be 'disfellowshiped', ie ex-communicated. When I had an accident with a lawnmower at age 10, my parents were ready to let me die so that they wouldn't lose their group of friends at church. That was the first "anti-JW" book I ever read (handed down from my stepdad), hoping to reinforce and convince myself that they are full of crap. Under scrutiny, however, his tirades really didn't hold up. I met Raymond Franz's brother at conventions few times.

I grew up between atheism (Fatehr) and the JWs (Mother) and have spent much time figuring out which side is correct. I have'nt had anything to do with JWs for the last few years but the sum of evidence is leading me to the conclusion that they are what they are. I have yet to find any real reason to doubt such, and in trying to doubt and getting to the bottom of many writings of "anti-JW" people, I'd even say it was they that are largely responsible for leading me to such a conclusion..

I don't hate them, but I don't want to talk to them. If I wanted to join their religion, I'd go to them. Otherwise, they should leave me alone.

I just have to add...discounting JH's because they don't celebrate Xmas is stupid--Xmas isn't christian either. Some of the most tolerant people i know are JH (and no I'm not one) but we don't even talk about religion.

Yes they follow the beliefs of a person but so do evangelicals they're just too dumb to realize it. Most evangelical teachings are based on Martin Luther, John Wesley, or someone like that. JH's are doing no different.

If you are evil (By Gods standards you go to hell theirs you stay on earth. The really twister is YOU are in hell now.
