Quoting: Anonymous Coward 928228I'm sure you could find better. It is also compatible with a 12 volt solar pump motor as a retrofit this is not grandmas cast iron pump in a 10 foot hand dug well this is for going down a hundred feet or more. rant off "When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves, in the course of time, a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it." - Frédéric Bastiat food, water, ammo, weapons, battery back up solar, hand well pump, wood stove and 1 year of food...oh yeah PM's too...good luck |

Lester User ID: 937007 United States 04/07/2010 03:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Avian, Think you were snookered. For $1264 you have all sorts of options. Even "grandma's pitcher pump" will lift from 100'. If you have a solar panel or two plus a few golfcart batteries and a halfway decent inverter, you could run a 1.5 to 2hp Jacuzzi or other real well pump. Just be sure you can energize the stator on the pump to get it going. On a 2hp pump that means about 5kw. Once moving, your current demand drops by 2/3 or 75%. Pressurize your house with a handpump? just ludicrous. For $1300 you could buy a Cistern and put it on a platform, pump your water to the cistern and have gravity feed. Running your pump into a 2500gal cistern makes a lot of sense. You always know you will have water. Not like you need a high HP rated pump anyway, just enough to get a couple gals per minute going into your cistern. An above ground swimming pool makes a decent cistern IF you can keep leaves, bugs and dirt etc out. Maybe a floating framework to support a nylon or plastic cover? Lots of options on water supplies. Nothing wrong with spending money on tools that make living easier. |
Lester User ID: 937007 United States 04/07/2010 03:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are many above ground lift pumps that can be adapted to many sources of power. You're looking for one that is belt-drive so you can use electric motor or other means to turn the lift impeller. Might be able to use a bicycle gear set on a stand? Easy to rebuild and cheap to run. Lehmans in Ohio, if they are still in business, probably has some of these gizmos. Might be able to fit a jobsite trash-water pump to your well. Runs on gasoline. 2.25" or larger hookups. Pump to a cistern and clean the pump with a bleach or vinegar solution if worried about potability. Do you have a household reservoir filter? |

Yep got one ten years ago, Y2K, well deep 80 feet, does work, replace the check balls with ping pong balls or large marbles. I got tired of pulling the pipe and unthreading them so I replaced the whole pipe with 1 1/4 black poly, hung it from a saftey chain (rope) worked better. keep the little metal joints away from the plactic guides with a foot or so extention. I used a 10 foot final pvc. Be prepared to be have a bit of water spray in your face, the top seal will leak where the pump rod comes from the top. The checkballs are the weakest part, then the plastic guides, everything else is solid. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 830974Very nice. Yep, its machined from a single aluminum blank disc. When I replaced my simple pump handpump with a full electric (finally got power) The well guy said it was the nicest he'd seen, but he also used the whole for the simplepump head as the main exit from the well head so I'm screwed without him! Waiting for the 120v well pump to need to be replaced and I will be there to be sure that part is not used. |

I would get a tank or fill the upstairs bath tub if I had too. I just didnt want to install a couple of Sunny Islands (sunnyboy inverter mod) for my existing grid tie system to run the well in an extended power outage. Now I can just have 1 sunny island and just power the lights and burner circuit...all single phase. Quoting: Evil TwinI had a deeper one put in, about 230', but I didn't think any hand pump was capable of pulling it up that far. What Can a Simple Pump™ Do? How deep can Simple Pump pump from? Because of Simple Pump's™ mechanical lever arm design, the average person can easily pump from depths up to 200 feet. We estimate that the maximum effective pumping depth is approximately 300 feet due to accumulated sucker rod stretch. How much water does it pump? Pumping rates from the Simple Pump vary directly with the frequency and length of strokes of the lever arm. In normal operation, Simple Pump™ delivers up to 5 gallons per minute. How hard is it to pump water? With the Simple Pump, pumping water from normal depths is easy. The lever handle that is standard equipment with our pump system works on common leverage principles and provides a leverage ratio of 3.3:1. The actual force required is dependent on the total length of drop pipe assembly. For a standard installation of 100 feet, it takes approximately 12 pounds of downward force - a child can easily do this. At 200 feet, it takes approximately 24 pounds of downward force.
