They work closely with political, leadership and military analysts throughout the Intelligence Community in producing current and longer-term intelligence products. There is a particular need for country/regional economists with strong backgrounds on East Asia, the Middle East and South Asia, and for specialists in international banking systems, financial markets, financial transactions, financial instruments, and energy. Economic analysts will also assess illicit financial activities, including networks used by terrorist and criminal groups, financing and procurement of weapons of mass destruction, money laundering and corruption among foreign governments and companies. Agency analysts are encouraged to maintain and broaden professional ties through academic study, contacts and attendance at professional meetings. They may also choose to pursue additional studies in fields relevant to their areas of responsibility. Opportunities exist for foreign travel, language training, analytic and management training, and assignments in other offices in the Agency and throughout the US Government. |

We have particular needs for country/regional specialists on East Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia but also have openings for specialists on Europe, Latin America, and Africa. Military analysts support US policymakers by evaluating the conventional and unconventional weapons systems, defense resources, war-fighting capabilities, intentions, doctrine, and war-fighting of foreign governments, terrorists, and insurgency groups. They can also look at such political-military issues as peacekeeping activities, denial and deception, regional security arrangements, and bilateral and multilateral arms control and nonproliferation regimes and diplomatic negotiations. But I feel that maybe they actually do some good work. And it would certainly be exciting too. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 332382Of course they do some good work, they dont all sit around jerking off to russian spies and smoking afghani opium. I would bet, they save americans lives all the time and we never hear about it, i would bet some dodgy as fuck shit happens though. They make choices which generally result in some crazy arab islamist fuck getting a laser guided bomb up his ass. Fine by me, less religion in the world is a good thing, especially less islam. Religion has its uses for the CIA though, how better to control people than to convince them they are doing gods work. As for serious talk about the drugs, heh, i have allways been convinced the CIA have more control over the global drug market than we are told, the drugs trade allows them to generate revenue to fund dictatorships and violence in tinpot countries, money to fund a group of sepratists in some african nation isnt exactly going to look good on some paperwork in the senate. I have been researching it lately-- AMAZING STUFF! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 332394No idea what that is, but i will look into it, im just guessing because its how i would probably run the CIA if i were in charge. They probably operate better if less people high up are actually aware of whats going on, i dont think you can protect the goverment if the goverment knows everything you get upto, politicians are known to talk about, or indeed get involved in scandels. All it takes is for some high on coke fat cat to blag something to some high class prostitute who is taking backhanders from some foreign spy, and some bad shit goes down on a military op when some crazies know something its coming before they should. Dont get me wrong i dont trust the CIA in the slightest, id imagine as a civie if i ever acidentally got in the way walking down the street they could probably cover up my death and nobody would be any the wiser, but i do have imense respect for what i perceive to be one of the hardest and most dedicated jobs anybody ever does..inteligence work. What attracts me to the idea of ever working for the gov is the notion that i am slightly more important to tptb than the sheep, and the nice financial insentive, seems like a stable job. If i was paid 50k+ a year to listen to some radio communication and keep my mouth shut about what i hear and report to my superior, i dont think i would have a problem with it. Maybe most people would have a hard time switching off that humanity if they find out something bad, im sure i would too, but i think i appreciate the bigger picture more than most. Atheist |

The only thing that anyone can do is offer advice from their own perspective or judge you in a positive or negative way. YOU are the one that has the ability to cross-reference your skills, abilities, fears, motivation with your short, medium and long-term goals. Look at your education, experience, goals, family (if that is a consideration) and decide what is best for you in life. It may be the CIA or digging ditches, but INVESTIGATE, RESEARCH, Talk to people in whatever field that CURRENTLY work in it or are retired so that you are TRULY making and informed decision. Good Luck to you and let us know what happens! |
