Windows "Easy Transfer", isn't.....Help please
Windows "Easy Transfer" installed on old computer and new computer.

Old computer has Vista Home. New Computer has Windows 7. Loaded CD on old computer using "Easy Transfer". Nothing will load from the CD on new computer, also using "Easy Transfer".

It keeps asking me for a file name. None are suggested or offered. Every file name I try is rejected. Have hours invested. Toshiba doesn't know how to fix it and Microsoft wants to charge me $59. Anybody?

Probably because you're using a rewritable CD or DVD that isn't closed and won't read on the new system.

Burn a CD-R or close the CD R/W and try again.

If you're not transfering a large amount of data you could also invest in a jumpdrive.

It's much easier and much faster than using writable CDs to transfer files. It also takes a lot of the guess work out of it since you can see the files transfer over.

just take the info you want to save and burn it to a dvd or even better an external hard drive. then hook it up and copy/paste basically.

I tried two different jump drives. Neither one of them worked either.

I think what they are suggesting is that you just copy any files you need on the old computer to the drive, then hook up the drive to your new computer and copy the files over to it. It is much faster and more reliable this way :)

look in documents and your desktop, copy those. as far as programs go make a list and reinstall.

don't have 7 so i'm unaware of how it is configured but it has to be possible to do the same thing.
