Lousiana beware! Vaccine-exemption bill fails to pass

BATON ROUGE — A Houma lawmaker’s efforts to have certain homeschool students exempted from a state law requiring meningitis immunizations was overwhelmingly rejected by a committee Wednesday.

Meningitis is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and normally manifests as an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.

High fever, headache and stiff neck are common symptoms in anyone older than 2. The symptoms can develop in hours.

In response to a minor outbreak two years ago, Rep. Jerry “Truck” Gisclair, D-Larose, passed 2008 legislation requiring every 11-year-old in Louisiana to be vaccinated against the disease by this year.

The law requires homeschooled children who participate in high-school sports to get the shot as well.

Rep. Damon Baldone, D-Houma, said many parents who teach their children at home question the vaccine’s long-term effects and safety.

“Some people don’t want to get vaccinated, and people have the right not to,” Baldone said.

Members of the House Education Committee, however, rejected Baldone’s measure by a vote of 13-1.

Rep. Patricia Haynes Smith, D-Baton Rouge, said it would be too dangerous, especially since homeschooled children often have lessons in public places.

“If this immunization will prevent a disease from spreading, why not have the immunization?” Smith asked Baldone. “If one child goes into the school, it’s contagious and can spread. That’s why we need this.”

“If that’s your thought process,” Baldone replied, “then we should have the entire population getting vaccinations.”

Rep. Charles R. Chaney, D-Rayville, said a friend’s 19-year-old son was killed by meningitis.

“He was playing college baseball, and practically within 12 hours of coming off the field he died,” Chaney said. Exempting homeschoolers from the vaccine “does not serve the homeschooler or the community at large,” he said.

Rep. Frank Hoffmann, R-West Monroe, agrees.

“I hate to tell people to take shots,” Hoffmann said. “But it’s not just for them, it’s also for the whole community.”

Meningitis is RARE and if the immune system is up kids don't get it. How about feeding your kids higher quality food not from a box? How about stopping and reading the ingredients of these toxic vaccines before having it injected into your kid.

We CANNOT pump our kids with loads of toxins in vaccines!

People, wake up! These vaccines don't even work, they are FRAUDS. There is much evidence to prove this.

Even the British Medical Journal has discounted all flu shots as "not proven safe or effective"!

^^ That is the test we all must use in making appropriate, informed decisions FOR OURSELVES and not allowing others to indoctrinate and decide for us:

1. Is it (insert treatment) proven safe with significant, verifiable evidence that has been soundly replicated?

2. Is it (insert treatment) proven effective with significant, verifiable evidence that has been soundly replicated?

3. What are the documented side effects (weighing/analyzing the risk-reward equation)?
