I work in the media biz and I've never met one person that has switched from a PC to a Mac... and said they wish to go back. Not One! If you use both platforms, you prefer the Mac. Simple as that.

Just posting a reply off of my Windows XP Dell PC I got in 2005. sure it aint up to date or anything and is a peice of shit compared to whats out on the market today but here I am doing everything I'd like to be doing on a computer just fine. When ever I use my ipod it dies in an hour and a half or so and it's really starting to piss me off.

In my opinion I'd prefer PC's over a mac anyday but I guess it's really up to what you need outta a computer.

If you are a graphic designer Apple has an edge due to its core instruction set. But for anything else PC is the way to go.

I am not sure. I am not a graphic designer myself. But I used to work in IT and I know that the core instruction set used to be better equipped for these types of programs. Having said that, that was a long time ago, I am in Finance now.

I've been using macs since 1999. Currently, 2 g5 towers, MacBook pro, iPod classic, iPhone, iPad. No issues. May be more expensive than pc, but you get what you pay for.... Quality.

You could be right but I wonder now about something like a hackintosh with same exact hardware? Or better hardware than a mac, running osx, built custom?

Sorry but I use both platforms.. and yes 5-10 years ago Pre-intel hardware you would have been right.

But now with Apple using overpriced x86 hardware, and the release of awesomeness that is Windows 7.

Comparing OSX and XP is like comparing cake to dogshit.... I'll agree that old windows sucked ass but time has changed things dramatically.

I like to do more than just work on my computer..... I like to also play games, and have a computer that will work seamlessly with others.

To say that macs have decent games is a joke and you know it. If blizzard dropped support that would be the nail in the coffin.

I've never been partial to one or the other, I have a powerbook, I've had good use out of it, and I've had PCs and had good use out of them.

They both have their pros and cons, but you cannot simply say one is better than the other because they are the same thing..... different logo.

Honestly I would have liked to see Apple to keep the MAC license open like they did in the mid 90s, when you could buy a Motorola Mac for almost half the price... but then apple stopped licensing to other companies because it showed the consumer how truely overpriced Apple hardware was...

Also to add to this I know a couple of Professional Photographers that have highly regretted switching from PC to MAC because they already knew windows, and are older people and simply don't want to spend the time relearning a new OS.

If you mean the instruction set in the CPU, then no, the Apple ones are not different. Apple uses Intel chips, for example, the iMac uses Intel Core i5 or Core i7 chips.

And guess what, many PCs use exactly the same chips. No difference at all.

I'm an MCSE, CNA, certified systems engineer and a developer in the app store and google play market. i'll just add my $.02 here. Apple makes nice laptops, but you better hope nothing ever happens to it or invest hundreds of extra dollars because you can't fix it yourself like you used to be able to. the first macbook pro i replaced the wifi card, superdrive, hard drive, battery, ram, heatsync, etc.
the newest macbook can have 0 of that replaced. literally 0. if your battery dies it's going to cost you hundreds of dollars to get it replaced. same goes for any part, ram is soldered in. this brings the macbook lineup on par with the iphone and ipod lines. 0 customization possible. on my android phone i can change everything, battery door, battery, led's, screen, sensors, even the operating system to a different phones OS. apple is about 3 years behind on actual technology that exists today. once a year they upgrade all of their product lines with a nominal amount of new features that the psychologists at apple deem "enough" for people to consider it a worthwhile upgrade.
the build quality on their products is amongst the poorest of all name-brand tech companies, but most people don't realize this because they really are amazingly beautiful. average ipod life is 1.5 years which is pretty abysmal for a device that costs hundreds of dollars. that said i do use their OS. i have built 2 mac pro hackintoshes that out-spec current $6,000 mac pros, for $1200 /ea. so for $2400 i built 2 computers that both beat 1 mac pro in specs. that's what i call price gauging. and they're both fully upgradable.
i think their laptops are great looking, and the trackpad stuff isn't offered anywhere else, so i wouldn't mind recommending macbook pros to friends as long as they get applecare with it.
me personally, i'm still using the original macbook pro model released in 2007 and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. i've upgraded the HD to a SSD drive, 2 of them, removed the DVD drive, upgraded the wifi card and ram and battery. my gf has a brand new macbook. and my 5 year old that i've taken care of and upgraded out benchmarks hers. i showed her this and she was actually pissed off, she spent $1600 on it and a computer 5 years old out benchmarks hers. that's why upgrading is important. it allows you to not have to purchase a new laptop to get new features. but that's not what apple wants, they want to control you. i've just managed to get the best from them without actually giving them much money

i will add that there is no comparison to audio production between os x and windows. if you're making music, and have external gear, windows is a nightmare, while os x is a dream. this is why i build my own macs

yeah we have an imac, i've replaced the hard drive, took about 20 minutes start to finish

that imac video is really old, it's a much easier process these days.
