New Version of X-COM computer game
[link to www.gamespot.com]

Yes, it is the Hanna Montana version of X-COM in a FPS. I am sure the spacetime aliens are trembling all over the Universe.
In fact, they have nothing to fear from humans, because humans are on this Planet in this Universe, and marketing will go by what the market wants - 12 year old stupid FPS games.

All sing with glee!

Not for previous version owners of this 1993 game that rated still higher than most other games that ever came out (and the sequels).

This in my opinion is just plain stupid, after crop circles and quantum physics standards (which were brought out in the first 3 games) but then I suppose the education standard of modern world is something akin to being dumb down yourself, because............................they want you to be dumb.

Re: New Version of X-COM computer game
That may be that they are funny, but the old games were funny also with the civilians running around panicky, and the soldiers and everything going on up the fourth game.

Still can get the old game on Steam bunched together or something like that and play them in dos-box free program downloaded to handle those old ms-dos games.

But a FPS, it is going to have to go some to please some players of this game from the old classic version.

The old versions of the classic game may need Windows XP also, since I have not kept up with whether it works with Vista or Windows 7, since most players probably are using Windows XP.

But it is classic UFO Report kind of game starting out in the '70's and the greys and all of that also. With Apocalypse, you also had the brain-suckers to start out with also.

Re: New Version of X-COM computer game
Let me put it another way.

NO spacealien in this Universe could ever force me to even think about playing a FPS-XCOM game.

I rather die first.
And that is what would happen in the game. The FBI agent of the '50's whatever it is, would just be ended.
Thus no gameplay.

Re: New Version of X-COM computer game
Now, others are programming similiar games and not looking for mega-bucks but just bucks for the true fans of games like these. Of course, those versions have to be a bit better than some of the others lately, but all 2K games want is mega-bucks for a game and then to all of us who played it, it is like wrecking the franchise.

Like a real UFO coming to a place near you, perhaps the consumer is just plain boring, and boring theirselves, instead of playing a game that is not twichy fingers and takes some thinking to play.

All that was wanted was an upgraded graphics version of the game, and don't tell me that a computer does not have a timer in it, instead of like the Collector's Edition of the three games that became too fast. And thank Microsoft for being unable to really program an OS in the first place because of all the fixes in critical updates they keep going through, and then the governmeat has to help them. An UFO and spacealiens should be allowed to really terrify humans on this Planet in a new game about UFO's.

That's teh suck. The original was a classic, and is still my favorite old game. I was hoping to see just the original re-made with an updated engine, but alas, no luck. There are some fan-made remakes out there though:

Re: New Version of X-COM computer game
There's another game they put up on one of the links of another forum that originally came out with the article about X-Com also. Kotaka or something like that is the website.

The game is going to be called Xenonauts or close to that.

But revamping XCOM to make it FBI Agent vs. (what) Predator is about what this is seeming to be. It just will not cut it for me. It may make 2K games money, but then I guess others will have to take over like some of the other original programmers getting together and making games, not for megabucks but for just bucks.

Why not Elvis Presely as the agent? Could sing "Hound Dog" and "A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" or something cool in the game besides what it seemingly is going to be.

No, need a squad, need headquarters, need research, need manufacturing, base management and need the origina X-COM:UFO Defense upgraded.

The entire franchise is going to change then because they are changing the genre.

Ya, that is what was stated so far: FBI Agent meets what (Predator) spacealien extraordinary, E.T. the extraterrestrial, etc...........mind goes blank.

Link to new game that briefly made it up to #2 in games at Gamespot, but since has dropped to #10.

[link to www.gamespot.com]

Comments are on the first link in the first post thread starter:

Call Mulder and Sculley it must be the X-Files and XCOM

[link to www.gamespot.com]

still can not get just the link, they have to include where (which link) it came from also, like News, or one of the previous X-COM games or the new XCOM link (new game without the hypen in it now.)

Ya, so far comments are pretty negative about this brain storm from 2K games.

Re: New Version of X-COM computer game
Well, since I already have a UFO:Afterlight game going (last one from Altar) which is on Mars and a pretty good game despite some remarks about the first two (UFO:Aftermath and UFO:Aftershock or something like that - have to look them up) and one can do a search about those at Gamespot or somewhere, and UFO:Exterrestrials (which I don't have yet but Bman did a mod for it to make it better but still it lacks somewhat and perhaps a second one is coming out) and the original games that can be downloaded from somewhere like gamersgate.com, or steam.com whatever it is, and perhaps other places for a very small price and also already have another game of XCOMA (Apocalpyse) going and now have started up the original game that started it all (despite being turn-based) still on my computer in dosbox which comes with the games when you download them (forget anything afterthat) still a FPS because they want to continue on with something different does not mean that:

Main people who have played those games will want that while all the while all they wanted was a better done graphic version and whatever RTS or turn-based like Apocalpyse already done was and still is but just updated more due to newer computers, I guess people will figure out a way to make them all work on newer OS's also because there are still forums out there devoted to especially the X-COM games.

But an F Bee Eye-ey-ey Agent in the '50's might or might not be something but a FPS is not probably for me, so:

Hoy-i-yoy-i-yoy!

2K Marin (2K games) and Austrailia must have been already been taken over by spacealiens also.

17 years later, I go berzerk like the soldiers in UFO:Defense (X-COM) or the other name in Europe (X-COM:Defence Unknown) or panic like the soldiers and civilians and just play the originals, so if I miss this so-called FPS XCOM game, well, ExCuse Me!

Geeze!

They are going to make it seem more real, just get the games and play them, and see (although it may take a while to actually play these games like the first one) to really feel what the game means because of real UFO Reports as far back at least of the '70's. Just in the '50's and this new game being what they want to make, just don't really excite me in the least. Just make me panic and go berzerk and take control of my mind and shoot me and get it over with. At least I will have died playing some real games in my life despite this world and humans being on this Planet in this Universe.

Well, back to doing something else along with playing at least some games that are bound to make anyone think about humans place in this Universe, despite the lights at night and Visible Earth from NASA because humans are broadcasting out into the Universe all the time. Does not make ma paranoid in the least and I have a telescope also so never seeing an UFO, perhaps they will come and take me off of this Planet of humans, or are they really humans, perhaps, perhaps not according to some, but last time I checked I was still human.

Re: New Version of X-COM computer game
Excuse me, X-COM:Enemy Unknown was the British Title from the Gallop Brothers game and Mythos Company that originally did the game. Then over here in the USA it became X-COM:UFO Defense and then up to X-COM:Apocalypse in a city and then bonkers with whatever came out. Then Dreamland Chronicles was going to come out with the original programmers doing that and then that was scrapped, then Altar came up and decided to get into the act and produced their three games starting with UFO:Aftermath ending with UFO:Afterlight (which is the best game but on Mars with terraforming and all of that and plays better with the patches.)

But X-COM:Apocalypse had both either turn-based tatical situations or RTS tatical situations in the game to make it go faster. Afterall around 250 missions in the game and you actually may think that with all the UFO Reports around that those games put you there despite Project Serpo on the Internet. Ya, the greys have been here and taken over 2K games, I guess.

(probably the govmeat also.)
