What a piece of BS on the Republicans part. They all lie but the R-tards rewrite their own freaking history. Guess the R-tards didn't read the bill or the amendment they wrote: "Requirement was included by Republican members of Congress. As a March 23 Politico report stated, 'Last September, the Senate Finance Committee adopted a [Sen. Chuck] Grassley [R-IA] amendment into its version of the bill, mandating that members of Congress and their staff get their health insurance through the exchanges. It was agreed to by unanimous consent.... [Sen. Tom] Coburn [R-OK] had earlier filed a similar amendment in the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which passed with some Democratic support.' Politico noted that the Congressional Research Service said the version of the requirement that ended up in the final bill may not include committee staff and 'those staff employed by leadership offices,' which has drawn criticism from Grassley and other senators." And Grassley even wanted congressional staff to be included then. Do people forget so freaking quickly! The Republicans were running around saying while the POS bill was being created, "If it is good enough for the people then it is good enough for Congress." There bluff was called and, yes, it is now in the bill. R-tard liars. |

"AMA apologizes for racially biased policies (CNN) -- The American Medical Association, the nation's largest organization of physicians, apologized Thursday for its history of discriminatory policies toward African-American physicians, including those that effectively restricted membership to whites. Dr. Nelson L. Adams said the AMA's practices had a "devastating" effect on African-Americans' health. "We are apologizing for policies and practices that we had that ... are offensive to AMA leaders today," the organization's immediate past president, Dr. Ronald M. Davis, told CNN. "Our major goal in this matter is to confront the past to build a better future." For a long portion of the organization's history, the AMA required that its members belong to a state or local medical society, groups that in some states did not allow African-Americans as members, Davis said. "AMA declined to take actions against those societies," he said, and "few African-Americans ... were able to become members of AMA for that reason."" In the 1930s, the AMA attempted to prohibit its members from working for the then-primitive health maintenance organizations that sprung up during the Great Depression, an action that was in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act and affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. * The AMA and other industry groups predicted an over-supply of doctors, and worked to limit the number of new doctors. But recently, the AMA has changed its position, predicting a doctor shortage instead. [5] [link to en.wikipedia.org] "How Relevant is the American Medical Association? First, like so many influential organizations, the number of doctors who comprise the AMA matters less than their influence in the beltway—they still are a potent Congressional lobby with plenty of cash to spend." [link to www.thehealthcareblog.com] But the AMA is just one example of the many ways in which the politicians already manage the U.S. healthcare system. |
