Anyone that is stupid enough to have small children and a Pit Bull should be sterilized so they can't have any more kids. That's so they can't pass on any more of their stupid gene. And their children should be fostered out to a family that cares about their safety.

some of the nicest dogs i've met are pits. and i'm not a pit fan. should they choose to bite it's a more serious attack just due to the anatomy of the breed, but any dog will bite. i've always been leery of them just because of the strength of the bite. yet... some of the more lovable dogs i've met have been pits. oh well, believe i'll stick with the akita.

Haven't read your thread yet OP, but wanted to respond. OP, you are telling it like it is. Whenever I see someone with a Pitt Bull I think a whole string of things about the person, none of them good, and the string starts with "dumber than a rock", Pitt Bull owners have a lack of character, and extremely low self esteem. IMO

There are a lot of stereotypes associated with looking tough. Unfortunately, pit bull ownership is one.

I was introduced to a very sweet pit bull yesterday. It is the owners, not the dog that make the dog act bad.

I have been bitten by : Basset hound, poodle, yorkie, chihuahua, and my neighbors Border Collie that nipped me when I would shovel snow.

Some of my friends own "tough guy" dogs. Never been bitten.

It's just a dog people...it's not evil, just a dog. Like another poster said "any dog can bite, but because of it's anatomy it can do a lot more damage" this is true. Pits are VERY dog and small animal aggressive (this trait was bred to be dominate) and you have to work with them constantly to keep this trait in line, HOWEVER, they are NOT NATURALLY human aggressive (this trait was bred OUT of them, human aggressive pits were "culled" by dog fighters, hard to handle a dog that will bite you as quickly as the dog your throwing it against). They have to have been abused or trained to be human aggressive.

Most pits LOVE children and I'm not talking about with ketchup. Their idea of heaven is to have hoards of children climbing all over them and their one of the few breeds of dogs sturdy enough to take the abuse. Most are very sweet tempered and very protective of children and their families. They are fantastic family dogs. ie Petey on the Little Rascles, or Laura Ingles dog from Little House on the Prairie - both pits. They have just been getting a ton of bad PR lately, a few decades ago it was Dobermans & Rottie's that were the "evil" dogs, before that German Shepard's. It's just a damn dog like any other. Bad owner, bad dog.

I have had wolf hybrids, a German shepherd and I've had a pit for the last 5 years that is a rescue dog. Hands down she is the best dog I've ever had. She is a bundle of joy. and I have a child who she adores and is well, very rough with her, a lot, and the pit thinks that's fantastic, that's love as far as she's concerned. lol. BTW - the only dog I've ever been bitten by was my Grandma's yappy teacup poodle... I hate little yappy rat dogs, they bark and snap at everything.

In fairness, she was the hardest to train however. She was about 11 months when we got her and had NO proper training. Pits are VERY stubborn and intelligent (any terrier breed is). So I had to establish dominance with her AND make sure every other member of the household did the same. After that, it wasn't too hard. It's about training, consistency and being responsible. I know, even with lots of "exposure" she is small dog aggressive... I make sure she has no opportunities to be tempted or indulge in this. The yard is fenced, she is always on the leash & gentle leader when we're out. It's a no brainer. We also have 4 cats...after the first week when she realized they were off limits, no problems there either. I don't beat her, it's just consistency, big voice and a squirt bottle. She's just a dog.

Why I chose her over the "nice Labs" at the shelter? She was a short hair, I loved her happy hyper energy, she was adorable with her one floppy ear, and, I knew no-one else would. I don't think she makes me look like a "bad ass" I'm a 40 yo overweight suburban mom, hardly part of the "Thug" culture.

Please educate yourself before you arbitrarily condemn an entire breed of dog for the stupidity and irresponsible behavior of their owners. Get your education from somewhere else other then the 5 O'clock news.

Some crack ho across the street from me in my old neighborhood moved out and left her dog, a pit bull. I was the only one to notice, because it cried and barked every time I went outdoors. So I fed it and walked it, until the house sold and the old owner called animal conrol to get the dog.


The animal control guy was so scared he wouldn't go near her. I picked her up (maybe 95 pounds) and put her in the cage in the truck. Broke my heart.


Anyway, to get to the point, I have lived around a lot of redneck retards. They usually think owning a pit bull means they are tough. The dogs themselves are angels, if their owners weren't buttholes.

But by the time they've been bred by buttholes for a few generations, the dogs are iffy. It's a tragedy. I blame the humans. Dogs can be bred to be bad.
