Quoting: Anonymous Coward 945661Because they are military aircraft, some with adaptations for desert environments. Moreover, if a military crew goes down they don't usually have 150+ passengers on board. There's tinfoil hatters then there's tinfoil class A encapsulated headcases. "It's all a conspiracy! I should film it tonight. I have no idea where it's coming from. We live in the middle of the U.S. My husbands co-worker also saw ash floating around when he picked up his kid from daycare. You can really see it at night with the light shining on it. |

It would be pretty silly to film tree pollen. Although there may be some pollen fetishists that may enjoy it. Actually I looked around and found a photo after the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980. It looks a lot like the sky looked in my area today. Here is the link: [link to www.panoramio.com] |

Doesn't sound safe to me. |

Here's one link with an animation showing the movement of the ash cloud: [link to www.esa.int] The more the eruption intensifies the more it will cause problems but who it will effect is up to where the jet stream carries the ash. " Now lemmesee...how quickly would this layering process happen? Is it instantaneous with the beginning of the eruption, as the smoke shoots up? So, in other words, for the Finnish Ilmavoimat to be telling the truth about their F-18s being damaged on Thursday morning, while flying in "Northern Finland", the particles specifically dangerous for jet turbines must have assembled in a jetstream layer, taken a much more Northernly route than the visible ashcloud - which apparently was nowhere near Northern Finland on said Thursday morning, rather just nudging SW Norway - to end up in their engines while playing flying circus over Lapland? Mmm'kay. Guess it's possible. If you say so. What do I know :) Sounds...wrong, somehow. Peace. |
Accidental Stoner User ID: 767025 Finland 04/19/2010 07:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hm, in that case, does the jetstream-powered layer of invisible particles specifically dangerous for jet engines spreads evenly over all of Europe, while the...ahem...visible one stays more concentrated? Difficult shit, one can easily see how these myths and misunderstandings arise. |

Hey I'm not the scientist, you can easily do your own research on how volcano ash spreads, dissipates in the upper atmosphere, etc etc etc. So Google it. I have less time than I did over the weekend to research and post this stuff now that my kids aren't sick. Btw, this link that I added in the updated section earlier has real-time air traffic plus the ash cloud. [link to www.radarvirtuel.com] I can tell you that I read that some of these models of the ash cloud were/are incorrect. Not surprising really. Humans are not infallible. Do I think they over reacted? Yah, probably. But, better to be safe than sorry, yes? I would imagine the next time something like this arises the reaction may be a little different. BIG Badaboom! I'm just too lazy, I admit, I creep to the cross and I confess. OS and browser too old, I'm afraid, can't seem to load the radarvirtuel thing :( Yeah, I guess the dangerous/invisible vs visible cloud ratio is pretty heavy then, since very few people have seen the visible cloud, but the invisible one affects all of Europe? What's interesting here is, of course, if such a thing as bona fide "overreaction" is involved at all... Personally, I have no problem with no flying. Au contraire, I thoroughly enjoy the clear blue sky! Peace. |
