After watching this movie I stopped feeling sorry for people like that chicken farmer or any of these other greedy assholes who use chemicals and GMOs. These farmers are just as much to blame as Monsanto for participating. And look how karma treats them: POOR and suffering.

Funny, I viewed it entirely differently. I felt bad for the farmers in that their hands are basically tied due to federal regulations. I'm recalling the farmer who was talking about that machine that was used in saving seeds and how they aren't even making those any more...they are forced to buy their seeds now.

The farmers were constantly being required to upgrade stuff. In fact, the one woman chicken farmer was giving up her farm because she refused to get a chicken building without windows that the feds require. She also said she was only making like around $18,000 per year.

It was the farmers who were blowing the whistle.

I don't think it's a question of 'letting or not letting' a corporation run your farm.

Do you have a choice to buy car insurance? To pay your taxes? Etc.

Increasingly, the farmers have no choice. You either comply or you are out of business. I don't think it has anything to do with 'greed'...like I said, she's making around $18,000 a year.

FYI, I wasn't arguing that the meat is toxic or that the conditions of her farm are bad.

In the near future, even organic farmers are going to be forced out. In many states it's illegal to sell raw milk. 'Nutrients' have been declared to be a toxin. Everything else 'healthy' is soon to follow. Organic farms will be raided if they are in 'violation'.

One other thing...It's almost unaffordable for most people to buy healthy food from organic farmers. I recently bought a free-roaming 5 lb. chicken for $12. The raw milk we buy is $8/Gallon. Most free-roaming eggs are $4.00/dozen. Unfortunately, I'm sure it HAS to cost this much in order for the organic farmers to stay in business. I really doubt they are making much more than enough to cover their cost of production and keep their land.

We do what we can, but the $12 chicken was a splurge for us. The raw milk and eggs are our main organic investment at this time.

Food in the supermarket has gone from bad to worse. I haven't been able to find any tuna that does not come from a foreign country. The other day I couldn't find any cottage cheese that did not have added 'crap' in it. It's getting harder and harder to find 'pure' ingredients, even amongst supposed 'whole foods'. Cream and half and half have Carageenan and other 'goodies' added or are ultra-pasteurized (even the organic brands). Veggies and nuts are irradiated. Etc. I noticed that our grocery store has started listing what country the fruit and veggies are coming from. I don't even need to tell you how much of it was coming from another country.

It's great to 'eat local' and support your local farmer, but sometimes you have to jump through hoops to get it, not to mention sacrificing a limb.

I have a garden this year, but we can't have chickens because our backyard is small.

Sometimes, I wish I could stop the planet and get off.

We eat smaller portions for meals. Along with cutting out dairy products, and anything made with yeast and sugar.
We also substitute one 'meat' for a veggie or fruit, so they can be included in our budget.

It's not easy. But the idea is too feel better, feel well.

It's now a law to display place of origin on fruits and veggies in the store. I live in So. Florida and it blows my mind where our food comes from, including seafood. Why would I buy shrimp from Indonesia when there are shrimp boats just 10M north of us ??

There is a house on a corner near me, and every time I drive by I hear a rooster crow.... not sure of the laws here but its strange to hear, nontheless.

Buy from Trader Joes if you don't have a food coop or farmer's market nearby. Much of Trader Joes is processed also, but at least they very clearly mark every detail and give you lots of options. They also have free-range products, non-antibiotic and all organic produce and its really not any more expensive than the Kroger, Albertsons or Publix crap.
