I've Never been A Sinner, I've Never Sinned...I Got A Friend In Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's gonna set me up with
The spirit in the sky
Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best.

Ok this is not a here is the way thread nor a religious thread. It is simply a thread for those who believe there is something better for all of us. Maybe something bigger than we can presently understand. It's a thread for all of those who think that their fellow man or woman, their neighbor, has something worth paying attention to. A gift to cherish, maybe a thing as simple as a smile. Maybe, especially, where you did not expect it.

Re: I've Never been A Sinner, I've Never Sinned...I Got A Friend In Jesus
I've sinned in pretty much every way except worshiping idols and I am a spirit filled warrior of God. it has nothing to do with me just Him. he takes me and uses me when I'm needed. kinda special forces for God. I move in heavy Spirtual warfare where pastors and the sunday saints would pass out or die and do what is needed to make things right. the old saying is one war one ranger. that is how God operates. one warrior against dozens or hundreds of the enemies soldiers.

Gatorz, I could be wrong but I think you're taking this song out of context.

If the writer is a Christian then he knows he has no sin.

It would be interesting to interview him/her.

It COULD be blasphemous or it COULD be very inspirational.

OH hogwash.

Norman was simply saying that because he accepted Jesus' covering his sins, it's as if he never sinned, in the sight of God.

This is Christianity 101, for crying out loud.

It really is SCARY how dim-witted, people have become.

Norman Greenbaum: If you ask me what I based “Spirit In The Sky” on… What did we grow up watching? …Westerns! These mean and nasty varmints get shot and they wanted to die with their boots on. So to me that was spiritual, they wanted to die with their boots on.
Ray Shasho: So that was the trigger that got you to write the song?
Norman Greenbaum: Yes. The song itself was simple, when you’re writing a song you keep it simple of course. It wasn’t like a Christian song of praise it was just a simple song. I had to use Christianity because I had to use something. But more important it wasn’t the Jesus part, it was the spirit in the sky. Funny enough… I wanted to die with my boots on.

Norman Greenbaum was no Christian when he wrote this song. I remember seeing him on American Bandstand at the time and his second song was about the "Tars of India".

He also wrote a song called "The Day They Sold Beer in Church".
