The fact that the night skies would change from the perspective of one on the moon, is because the moon orbits the earth and thus the night sky would change. it does not prove the moon rotates on it's axis. It is does not rotate on its axis and the proof is in the fact we see the same side all the time.

How could the moon keep the same face pointing at the earth WITHOUT rotating?

The Moon is only turning once every 28 day because its face is glued to the Earth. In and of itself, it does not rotate.

The moon rotates in and of itself, you're precisely wrong. Here's a timelapse of a simulated lunar day on a moon base near the south pole of the moon (next to Cabeus crater, in fact). The sun and earth both rise and set and the stars whirl by as the moon rotates.

So I guess you think the Sun orbits around Earth once a day, too, because it LOOKS like it does from Earth?

If the moon did not rotate the stars would not appear to move from the moon's surface. Only the planets and sun would move against the stars very slowly over the course of a year. The moon's orbital motion around the earth contributes negligible amounts of apparent motion to the sun and planets, and absolutely nothing to the stars. I just sowed you what it looks like from the moon's axis; it rotates.

Wrong. If you stood on the north pole of the moon and looked straight up, you would see the stars rotate once every 29 days. Thus, the moon is indeed rotating.

I don't think it's a contradiction. "Of itself it does not turn." The movement is not independent, it is tied to the earth.

You're looking for ways not to understand what she wrote, not ways to understand it. I know what a real contradiction is, and this isn't it.

Re: ZetaTalk LIVE Chat April 24
The confusion occurs because the rotation rate of the moon is the same (or very close to) it's orbital rate around the earth so that we always see the same face. If the rotation rate of the moon was every 28 days instead of every 29 days, or every 30 days instead of every 29 days...or ANY rate other than specifically 29 days, then there would be no question that the moon rotates since you would over time see all of its faces. It's only because its rotation rate is synchronous with its orbital rate that people think that its doesn't rotate.

The fact that we see a changing sun angle in the various phases of the moon over a month's time proves that the moon does indeed rotate on its own axis. Like most other natural satellites in the solar system, it is tidally locked to its more massive parent planet. But to say that it is "glued" to the earth is simple ignorance and naivete.

Nancy is now attempting to massage the "Zeta" claim, after the fact, so that she can make it seem more reasonable. Here are actual "Zeta" statements on the matter. Context for each is given on page 7:

We have made the statement that the Moon itself does not rotate.

Thus, the Moon orbits but does not rotate.

How could this be when man walked on the Moon, which does not rotate.

Since the Moon does not rotate

Why do some humans claim the Moon rotates?

we have said the Moon does not rotate.

********************************
Next, someone posted a resonable explaination, encompassing the idea that Nancy is only NOW trying to embrace. What did she do? She called the poster a "dork". Here is that exchange:

> A quote from elle's link:

> "The 27.3 days it takes the Moon to complete one orbit around the Earth is about the same as the time taken for it to complete one rotation. This synchronous rotation means that it always shows the same face to the Earth."

> i.e. The moon ROTATES on its axis in 27.3 days.

No dork, YOU are attempting to put words in Elle's link. That link does NOT say the Moon rotates, it says it orbits.

The Moon is not turning, which is rotation, is it glued to the Earth, one side of it glued to the Earth and the other side perpetually facing outward from the Earth. This is different than 'rotation'

Definition: rotation: The turning or spinning of a body about an axis running through it.

Thus for the Moon to be rotating, it must be spinning about its OWN axis, not glued to something else and thus changing its position when that something else moves. If you hold a book in front of you, pages to your nose, and turn in a complete circle, the BOOK did not turn in a circle, YOU did.

Duh!

**************************

Note how Nancy says that the poster is trying to falsely insert words? Well, the words *IS* clearly included in the cited passage. The word in question is: ROTATION. Don't you see where that word *IS* in the cited passage? I bolded it for clarity. So why did Nancy call the poster a "dork" and falsely say that the word(s) weren't really there?

Oh and, by the way... Earth is tied to the Sun like the Moon is tied to the Earth. Does that mean Earth is not rotating?

Would the Moon not be rotating if Earth suddenly went missing?

Yes, the Moon is rotating "of itself". Earth is not causing Lunar rotation just because it affects Lunar rotation!

PS: NOW, Nancy is attempting to play BOTH sides by saying that the Moon "turns", but doesn't "rotate". She is playing word games, pure and simple.

Oh, and rest assured that Nancy is reading every word of this and working on a way to save face. If she can't figure out a way to massage the language enough to make herself "right", she will simply ignore the matter from now on and ban anyone who challenges her further on it. That is how she has operated since 1995.

No Menow, it is YOU that is being deceptive here. Nancy is quite clear on this on why the moon appears to turn as it is "glued" to the Earth, with the same side facing the Earth. You are using semantic games as usual. Get a life and go to threads you have an interest in ... shill.

Lord you're thick, Menow. If you are dancing around the floor with a dead woman in your arms, SHE is not twirling around, you are dragging her around. The Moon is only turning once every 28 day because its face is glued to the Earth. In and of itself, it does not rotate.

She doesn't say "APPEARS TO TURN" as you falsely stated.
She says (now) that the Moon *IS* turning in direct contradiction to her previous "does NOT turn" statement. Did you miss where I provided the quotes? Poor baby!

By the way, what does "glued to the Earth" mean?
