I love the water and sand story!

Regarding looking for a job, it seems to me that putting in applications, especially for every possible job opening you see, is the wrong way to go about it. This approach makes you passive and needy, and gets you off to the wrong start even if you get the job because you had to 'grovel' to get it. And not finding a job this way makes you feel hopeless and un-chosen, so it is bad for your self-respect.

A better way would be to think about what you would want to spend all day doing, what kind of environment, how much routine and how much action, what skills you'd like to develop better and better, then look around for a place that fits that image. Volunteer there if you have to but just get started doing it. Having a strong intent and maintaining it will gradually end up paying off (supporting you). There is a line in a poem that says, "Having put yourself on the way, it was inevitable that you would reach here". So this is about putting yourself on the way to a destination of your choosing.

In other word, you have something to give to the world so you do not need the world to give you a job. The problem with finding just any ole job is that if it doesn't really fit for you, you end up as miserable as you were when you were jobless except now you are locked into a situation that is hard to maneuver from.
