The trinity - makes no sense!!!
I consider myself a Christian - I love Jesus and God and follow the teachings of the bible (as best as I can)

But ... The trinity makes no sense to me!

When Jesus is on the cross he says " Father why have you forsaken me?" If God and Jesus are the same 'entity' this makes no sense - Jesus obviously considered his Father (God) to be seperate!

Please reply in plain summarised English that is understandable to simple people (me!!!)

Read Psalm 22 word for word (all of it).

Then realize that pharisees memorized entire chapters (because they didn't have verses back then). So the best way to recall a chapter of Scripture was to quote the first line/sentence and everyone else would know what you were talking about.

Exactly I can't see where in the Bible the trinity doctrine even came from - seems very strange to me and surely does turn people away from Christianity!

It's a Catholic invention... part of their pantheistic approach... you can pray to God, or Jesus or the holy spirit.

Or one of their 65 billion various saints... or the virgin mary...

It's just another classic example of how Catholicism is infused with pagan concepts.

It is a duality, he is both, actually he is Man - Jesus, Christ - the Word and God one part of three.

Look at the particle-wave theory of light. It makes a lot more sense if you understand that scientific principal.

However how does you not believing the trinity stop you from reading or understanding the Gospels? Stick with the Gospel's, understand them and live them and you will be free. Of course when there is time read all the Old and new Testament.

Lastly, I have read the Old and New Testament and I do not remember the Trinity mentioned? I believe it is a Catholic concept, but it seems valid. Anyhow either way it has no impact on you growing in the World.

Cheers,

It is a metaphor like most of the bible... it has deeper meanings...

Jesus is not totally the God, he is part God like you and me. The trinity is just a metaphor for the action of three is very important on earth. The Holy Spirit is the feminine aspect, while Jesus represents the male aspect and God represents the Divine, the divinity within us all....

He was quoting Scripture when he said, "My father, My father, why have you forsaken me."

That's no different than if you quoted that verse.

However personally, I do consider them to be separate physically (literally), but one spiritually.

That's made me really happy - so glad there are people out there who feel the same have just had so many bad experiences with 'Christians'

It is a long story but I became a Christian pretty much on my own from being a hardcore atheist, never had any help from any organisation just had it all explained to me by a partner and then confirmed by God himself!

Re: The trinity - makes no sense!!!
And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,

And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

note:::::
Christ wearing a crown of thorns says (Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani) "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me". A deeper meaning of the word "forsaken" is "entangled" . Father Why have you entangled me - It's the sacrifice that Abraham found in the thicket with its horns caught in the thorns - That's Christ's crown of thorns.

note::::
also you can bet the first Adam called out to God - exiled outside of the garden, (Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani) "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me"

As for the title of this thread, you need to study and meditate on this mystery you seek the answer to.

Two the other two replies:

Metaphorical-ness makes sense I guess but that is not how I have heard others describe it - they have said Jesus is/was God incarnate.

Always found it a very strange idea with no biblical evidence!

A body has a spirit, a mind and a body. Spirit, mental and matter. Matter is Jesus, mental is God, spirit is spirit. A distortion of buddhism cristianism is. Jesus taught buddism, incarnations, respecto for all life, respect fo women... Then came the church and started even satanism. Go buddist and you will be correct.

Re: The trinity - makes no sense!!!
Think of it this way, a triangle is made up of three lines.
We will call them lines A, B and C. Now these three separate line have names, just like the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.None of this changes the fact the it is a triangle.

Another example is us Humans, we have our conscious minds, our sub-conscious and our soul conscious mind. Karl Jung thinks we also have a collective conscious mind. With all of this we are still one human being.

Hpe that helps.

I don't know if this is correct but I see it as God explained in Genesis 1:26.

“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness"

God is mind, spirit, flesh just as we are since we are created in "Their" likeness.

I think my faith likes to be very black + white and uncomplicated. I know ...
1) God is amazing, beautiful and loving
2) His most loved creation (his son) sacrificed himself so we can be forgiven for being crap!
3) Jesus will come back and those willing to change will be given eternal life

Probably basic but I hope it does me alright in the end Lol

The trinity is a symoblic understanding of the first extensions of God. God extended into the Christ which extended into the Holy Spirit.

It can also represent the self (ego) rising above duality as represented in the triangle.

Did Jesus really say that on the cross? Maybe not. Try not to take the Bible so literally.

It's simple to me.

You are a body, soul, and spirt. You are one whole person with three components.

Just because you do not have the power to separate your physical body from your spirit,

.....does not mean God cannot do it.

Re: The trinity - makes no sense!!!
I can't believe no one has directed you to this verse, OP. NO the "Trinity" is NOT a Catholic concept. Read this:

1 John 5:7 "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, The Word and the Holy Ghost: AND THESE THREE ARE ONE."

No one on earth could even begin to understand this but I imagine all things will be made known to us when we come into His presence.

While on earth, this is the promise from God's Word that I claim:

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths."

Remain strong in the Lord, OP. Don't let these hurdles cause you to stumble. Accept that the Trinity is real because the Bible says it is so and seek God for direction and discernment. The time when all of our questions will be answered is very soon upon us.

I wish the churches were more help but, sadly, most are "dead" and offer no guidance. My family has a home worship service on Saturdays (the True Sabbath according to the 10 Commandments) and we feel God's presence even in our little circle.

Just ask Jesus everyday to guide you. Include Him in every decision you make (even the seemingly petty ones). He has promised never to leave you once you pray to receive Him so by making Him an active part of your day and nurturing a relationship with Him, wisdom and discernment will naturally follow.

God Bless your walk with Him!
