The Good Thing is 115 people survived with no injurys..17 people got off on a helicopter..thats pretty good for 5 minutes notice..

The fix is never as cheap as the prevention. The BOPs should have functioned..but if there is no power to send the signal then its a manual operation..turning valves and pulling levers... 1 2 3.. should have taken a minute maybe two to close the rams...If they didnt do that...then all hell must have broken loose and its abandon ship..
The Helideck melted...the soft edges of the hole look very plastic..where the heat came from ? a ruptured pipe spewing gas ignited and then burnt out..who knows... it doesnt matter now..11 people died...and now the ocean will too unless we get very very very busy....THE MARTIN MARS fire bomber needs to be filled with DISPERSANT and get moving over the slick

The BOP's are on the sea floor, 5000' from the surface.

A minute or two is not a reasonable time frame.

They did this w/ ROV's & BOTH FAILED.

I mean I am not really into engineering but it would make common sense to have safety devises to shut off the oil.

This is why this doesn't make any sense.

From what I gathered last night their are hydraulically actuated ones controlled from the surface, then there is another one designed to auto actuate upon a major loss in pressure, then the manually activated last resort ones.

If I remember correctly there are 2 manual ones + 3 remote controlled ones, which were not operable due to the loss in power.

It's called fire, fool. Fire is hot, fool.

I guess they never told you about fire on POX news.

One would think that loosing power would have been the very first issue addressed. Does anyone know why they didn't get the 2 manual shut offs turned off?

AFIK they tried to shut them off w/ ROV's. It's a fairly simple process of pulling a pin.

BOTH OF THEM FAILED.

There is some question as to weather T.O. modified them after Cameron delivered them.
