WARNING!!!! Mirena IUD
I had the Mirena IUD implanted a year and a half ago. Six months ago everything in my life changed. I woke up feeling nauseous and was in the bathroom for 20 min feeling I had to vomit. Almost every morning since has been the same. I have no insurance now & can not afford to go see a doctor. I also have menstral periods almost every two weeks, some lasting 5-7 days, with heavy bleeding and extreme pain. I am moody most all of the time and my sex drive seems at times completely gone. I feel so sad because of how bad I feel. I used to be such a happy and cheerfull person. Now, I dread getting up in the morning because I know how sick I am going to feel & I can't seem to control my emotions. I get irritated at the smallest things. It is becoming unbearable to live w me & my family is having to deal with it :(.

So sorry for your pain, OP.

Re: WARNING!!!! Mirena IUD
Arent those part of the symptoms ? A friend of mine had something similar when she first had one implanted. But they went away.

I've never given birth, so I cant have one. Guess I should be happy about that.

Thanks for your concern. My fiance and I are considering just going ahead and getting married, so I can be added to his insurance. We can still have our wedding as planned, but I guess it will be a renewal of vows. There is a chance I can be added to his insurance, since he has supported my kids and I for the past year. We are going to try that route first, but yes this devil implant must come out & soon!!

Re: WARNING!!!! Mirena IUD
Please go to the doctor or even the nearest family planning clinic. Sometimes an IUD can get infected and make you feel really crappy. The infection can spread to other areas of your body including your fallopian tubes and ovaries.

Hopefully you do not have an infection, but if you do, the IUD not only needs to be removed but the possibility of an infection must be checked and treated if present.

Good luck, but please get it checked out.

Re: WARNING!!!! Mirena IUD
OP, go back to your doctor and ask to work something out. If he/she has an ounce of decency they will work with you. The way you feel is no joke and you deserve to feel much better!!!!

My heart goes out to you!

Re: WARNING!!!! Mirena IUD
Given enough time, all IUDs eventually cause fallopian tube blockages (permanent infertility).

If you have an IUD and ever want to get pregnant again, have it removed ASAP!

My aunt lost her ability to have kids completely due to an IUD infection. Worst discovery of her life, ruined her life... Go get it out ASAP.

Re: WARNING!!!! Mirena IUD
Possibly an ER visit to get it removed? They may not charge as much as an OB/Gyn private office visit. When I lost my insurance my OB/Gyn wanted $350. for a follow-up office visit. Ridiculous. But you really should get that thing taken out.

Re: WARNING!!!! Mirena IUD
I am 41 years old, and had a child at age 39. Three months after the birth, I had Mirena inserted. At no time was an ultrasound done to check for placement. Within weeks or days of placement I was awakened in the middle of the night with weird anxiety feelings, and I began checking side effects of the IUD online. Everything I was experiencing was listed as a possible side effect, however, the Doctor assured me that it wasn't the IUD. I did find the messages boards to be much more accurate to what I experienced than the Mirena website....shocking!!!

After months and months of feeling "abnormal" for a lack of a better term, I decided to have the IUD removed. I had mentioned several side effects with the doctor and he continued to say that it wasn't the IUD. This was after the IUD being in place for approximately 19 months. After somewhat scoulding on me for having it removed the doctor agreed to do so, and said it wasn't a problem....or so he thought then he tugged, and tugged, and tugged, went and got other tools, and tried again, and again, with no luck. Then said "we will schedule you for surgery".....needless to say, not what I was expecting. Before he left he went onto say maybe that the IUD was causing some of the side effects I was experiencing.

SIDE EFFECTS I EXPERIENCED: Severe mood swings....constant back aches, spotting between periods, and anxiety and real short temper!!!

After leaving the office, I called back the next day to verify what had gone wrong. The nurse told me that the IUD was embedded in my uterus and that it would need to be removed.

Last week I had my surgery. A D&C and ablation of my uterus. I am happy to report that all has gone well thus far and I am doing well.

I think that if you have the side effects early on either the placement wasn't done correctly or checked, or maybe the IUD just doesn't agree with everyone's body. I am definitely glad that it is out. I plan to update soon, and let you know how things go. I appreciate the posts, it made me realize that I WASN'T CRAZY!!! The Mirena isn't right for everyone, including ME!!!
