OMG - Oil Spill will Cover Entire Gulf of Mexico by October 3rd 2010
UPDATE: I divided by 600,000 miles squared when it should have been 1,554,000 km squared. New date of entire gulf coverage with oil slick is October 3rd 2010.
END UPDATE

[link to www.csmonitor.com]

Officials combating the spill estimate that the oil slick has a circumference of about 600 miles (about 970 kilometers),...

April 28th the circumference was 970km. That equals approx 75,000 km^2 in surface area.

[link to www.csgnetwork.com]

On April 28th the oil slick area was 75,000 km^2.

That was 8 days after the event on April 20th 2010.

75,000 / 8 = 9,375 km^2

So it can be considered 9,375 km^2 a day.

The Gulf is about 1,554,000 km^2 in size.

1,554,000 / 9,375 = 166

It will take 166 days to cover the entire Gulf of Mexico.

166 days from April 20th 2010 is October 3rd 2010

Yup, 10-03-2010

That is still very bad!!!

Linear Extrapolation of events seldom are accurate. That is why housing prices didn't continue to rise and that is why oil prices when declining didn't go back down to $15/bbl.

With the oil the box caps they are going to install in another 10 to 14 days "may" result in a goodly chunk of the oil being captured and sent to tankers on the surface.

On the other hand IF the well head erodes out from all the sand going through it then the volume could jump to 100,000 bbl/day, which the caps would have a hard time containing and pumping to the surface (that works out to about 140 bbl/minute - or about 5880 US Gal/min!! YIKES!!)

With this event I guess it is prepare for BAD and hope for better.

 Quoting: ºSPiRaLº

Yeah, when I rechecked the math I found 2 errors. They have been corrected now. I only want truth, so it isn't 9-11, that would have been huge but still, by October 3 2010 it will be estimated to be enough to cover the Gulf of Mexico by then.

Though, there are certain factors that will skew the actual oil slick area. Like wind, current, Mississippi feed at 3.3 million gallons a second, ect.

Yet, it is still a mathematical certainty using actual facts. The oil slick circumference was known by satellite and that gives an accurate area of coverage when using a circle calculator. Dividing by the number of days when the slick was that size is very close since the flow, most likely, has been consistant.

There is truth in math.

I say well before that. I say in two months.

Get this!!!!!!!

Imagine black water! Black absorbs heat! Water temps in the gulf will rise by 10-20deg.! IMAGINE WHAT THAT WILL DO TO A TROPICAL STORM? They ALL will turn into hurricanes. They all will grow and an Cat 5 will not be the largest storm. I would say a Cat 7 would be.

Hurricanes will make it clear all the way through the states exiting through the east coast, probably above Washington DC.

That is a very radical idea but at the moment it has plausable thoughts.

Pavement would be a good example to determine the potential temp difference. Pavement is made from oil, dark oil that is close to raw properties.

[link to www.roads.gov.nl.ca]

This link shows temp differences in air versus pavement.

Air 17*C = 23*C Oil Slick

The difference is by a factor of 1.3529 (23/17=1.352941176...)

So a good air and/or water temp in peak hurricane season would be a high at 92*F in late August.

92*F = 33.33*C

So...
A = Ambient Air Temp of = 17*C
B = Pavement Temps of = 23*C
W = Water Temp in *C August
Y = Factor of Temp Difference = 1.3529
3.14 = Oil Dilution in water
X = New Oil Slick Temp

B / A = Y

(((W * Y) - W)/3.14) + W = X
(((33.33 * 1.3529) - 33.33)/3.14) + 33.33 = 37.076*C
37.076*C = 98.74*F

An increase of 6.74*F estimated

All that is preventing the free flow of oil – which could amount to tens of millions of gallons – is the kinked riser pipe, which is springing leaks.

In a worst-case scenario, the well could vent 4.2 million gallons of oil into the Gulf daily.

Currently, a crumpled “riser” pipe is preventing the full flow of oil – like a kinked garden hose – though reports suggest it is gradually deteriorating.

the problem with your thesis is that hurricanes also require a huge amount of water to survive. The oil could actually diminish the strenghth of a hurricane because it won't be able to absorb water.

I forgot about the erosion of the wellhead from frozen methane crystals ans sand. It's an ongoing process and I'm sure there is not much of the wellhead left by now.
When the wellhead goes, it will blow the BubbaBox straight through the bottom of the oil tanker above it.

reminds me of a dream i once had, i was with a bunch of people living in a cave, everyone was wearing shaggy and torn clothing. it felt like everyone just wanted to give up and die but we kept on dragging along, anyway for some reason i left the cave with afew others and went outside. the sky was very cloudy and we where on a rocky shoreline, i knew that it was the ocean but for some reason i had a huge hate for man when i saw what i saw. the ocean, was an ocean of oil, everything looked barren and destroyed, everything was dead!

true story from what i remember of the dream.

ive also had a dream about a nuke going off in central u.s or mabe an emp, and one about a huge earthquake that made huge sinkholes....

The article says it would take 250 days to reach the same amount of oil spilled on Valdez. It does not add up, if you use 200,000 gallons a day. Valdez was 11 million/200,000 = 55 days.
Another day in eternity, basking in the reflected vortex of the chaotic light and the homogeneous metallic quantum foam.
