Potential Tsunami from Oil Leak in Gulf
Water is not rushing to take the place of oil flowing out. The pressures where the oil reserves are decreasing and the Gulf Waters will push down on the seabed to compensate the loss of pressure.

It seems accurate to say the amount of oil that is spilled is equal to the amount of water that will eventually displace by pushing the floor of the Gulf.

If the reservior collapses, the displacement could send a large tsunami hurling in all directions.

Its like filling a balloon with oil, placing it at the bottom of a pool and laying several blankets over top. When the oil escapes, the blankets will sink with the escaping oil shrinking the balloon.

Of cause the alternate is that part of the roof of the oil bed fails allowing a far slower input of water to fill the cavity.. but far far more oil leaking.

Or none of them happens, the oil well gets plugged, the oil gets cleaned up over the next 2 years and everything is fine.
