I guess when they runb out of corexit and other synthetic means of keeping the oil lake below the surface of the GoM, it may well rise to the surface and spread via the loop current.

Begs the question, do they know this will happen, and hence have been making attempts to stop the Gulf conveyor in order to stop the inevitable? Or is the coveyor slowing due to the oil?

A science fiction novel was written in the 1800's about an oil leak in the GoM. Odd, because oil production was in it's infancy, and production 'in' the GoM was also in it's infancy.

The leak resulted in a minute film of oil covering the entire surface of the World's oceans, which resulted in no rain, drastically changing the weather, killing crops, warming the planet.
