Supracrustal faults of the St. Lawrence rift in Charlevoix area are become more active then usual in last 2 month. Area of this system is between Cap-Tourmente saguenay and Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec. The st lawrance fault are highly monitor because alot suspect this will be a part of the new madrid fault ignition.

The zone is one of the most seismically active in North America east of the Rocky Mountains. The first and largest known damaging earthquake (magnitude about 7) in the seismic zone occurred in 1663. Several others have caused damage since then, most notably in 1925 (magnitude 6.2), and the most recent damage from an earthquake in the seismic zone was in 1979 (magnitude 4.8). Earthquakes cause damage in the seismic zone every few decades.

The St. Lawrence rift system from the Laurentian craton core to the offshore St. Lawrence River
system is a seismically active zone in which fault reactivation is believed to occur along late Proterozoic
to early Paleozoic normal faults related to the opening of the Iapetus ocean
