It's happened to me in the past and is infuriating. I am guessing you need to remove something from your PC, but I don't know enough about 'puters to tell you what.

ROFL, OP, I feel for you! The problem I had, was location. Living too close to a AM broadcasting station! I didn't need a radio. The broadcast came over the phone, stereo speakers and laptop speakers.

All you can do is shield the equipment. Talk to a tech at Radio Shack or HAM radio operator, call the FCC or the offending station. By law, if they are causing interference, the have to do everything reasonable to stop the interference. I just moved out of the apartment complex.

Good Luck!

Wrong. On the back of almost every electronic device is a disclaimer that states it must accept any interference but not create it. Radio stations come over barb wire fences in some locations. I'm afraid the FCC will tell you it is your responsibility to pay for the fix, since the radio station is licensed to broadcast in a certain pattern and power range.

Wrong.

You cannot interfere with other peoples radio, tv, telphones, etc, with your radio station.

Part 97, FCC rules.

FCC can fine the offending station if they (the FCC) determine that you (the offending transmitter), are responsible.

Any HAM operator knows this, it's on the test.

If you turn the computer off and disconnect the power and the problem continues, you need professional help. (or a better tinfoil hat)

Re: Anyobody have sound/commercials coming out of their computer speakers even if nothing is running???
No, but my car radio did this. It was turned off and set to an FM country station when it started to pick up a Mexican radio station. FREAKED me out when I turned the car on and there were VOICES I could barely hear...LOL. None of the dials were working...couldn't change the volume or the station and the "off" dial showed it was off. When I finally tracked it down I figured it was a short or a loose wire and ignored it. Until the time it suddenly blared out "Viva Mexico"...the Mexican National Anthem...at FULL volume. If you don't know "Viva Mexico" it has lots of trumpets...sounds like bull-fighting music.

Re: Anyobody have sound/commercials coming out of their computer speakers even if nothing is running???
some ads on websites now are playing sound files but not video. I think the new flash updates for flash video have allowed for this.

The cure might be to totally remove this version of flash and install the older version, if you can find a safe copy of it. However, some flash sites might not play their videos if you do this.

In other words, welcome to the future of, "Yeah, we screwed you big time, so live with it, besides, what's so bad about a commercial or two?"

Sometimes web browsers are on in a hidden state. Firefox sometimes does this.

If in Windows, right click your task bar and open task manager. Look for programs running that should be turned off, or if you find one you are not familiar with, google the name of that task, find out more about it, and if it is a bad program, google how to get rid of it, but try to do it without downloading some new anti-virus program, many new ones are bad programs in disguise.

Re: Anyobody have sound/commercials coming out of their computer speakers even if nothing is running???
I am having a Lysol commercial that replays thru speakers. I had been hearing something so had to turn them allll the way up to hear what they are saying. They are saying-- to the effect -- over 200,000 people are hospitalized every year with flu-complications, including youngchildren.... It's important to follow CDC guidlines...... - Washing hands and help protect your family with Lysol. --- Then silence -- Then the commercial replays. I have no browsers open and just ran a viru scan with Norton 360. Computer was rebooted, but this still continues. Not sure what to do. I think it is affecting my internet speed.

Re: Anyobody have sound/commercials coming out of their computer speakers even if nothing is running???
Yes. Absolutely. About a week ago I was up all night with insomnia. Although the house was completely quiet, I started hearing what sounded like people on a talk show. It was just a low murmur of sound at first, but then I caught a few words and phrases and I figured someone had left the TV on downstairs. I went to investigate and found nothing. I figured I was just trying to make sense of the rhythms and pitches of all the electronic stuff in the house. I tried to sleep but the sounds kept interrupting. I gave up on sleep and tried again the next night.

During the day, when the neighborhood is noisy, no sound. But this next night I heard some distinctive words and also music. The next night I heard a woman speaking Russian - this sound was coming from my bathroom, whereas the first came from downstairs. I told my husband, who is half-deaf, but of course he couldn't hear the sounds and thought I was nuts. I thought of going to the FBI with a conspiracy theory, but I thought they'd think me nuts, too.

It's become louder over the week, and yesterday I was upstairs taking a shower and started singing a song from "Fiddler on the Roof" for no reason. I like the musical and saw nothing strange. Downstairs in the kitchen before my husband for a change, I didn't turn on the TV immediately. I started hearing a song from "Fiddler" and looked up to the TV. It wasn't turned on! I had felt it through the floor and walls. I went to the basement TV (home theater setup) and found that everything there was also turned off. I found I could hear the song through the bass stereo, so I turned it off too. Still music, so we unplugged it, even though hubby said I was nuts. I had to remind him that of course he couldn't hear it - he's deaf.

Anyway, interminable story made long, I heard it again tonight. This time I worked methodically through the electronic equipment. I could hear the song (this time a pop song by Pink) in all of the plugged-in electronics in one room. Tired, I decided I'd just shut off the circuit breaker. In the laundry room, I could hear it through the FREEZER! A trip around the house revealed that every appliance that had power going to it even when unplugged (refrigerator, range, even a desk lamp in addition to speakers), especially along the wall connected to the electric meter. And it gets louder every day. I'm waiting for the radio station to identify itself so I can complain. I suspect it's a local small, independent station - who else plays "Fiddler" AND Pink AND talk shows AND Russian soap opera?

My question is - has anyone found a solution? If I don't get some sleep I really am going to go nuts and then they'll all be right. Better yet, can anyone tell me why it happens? Thanks

Re: Anyobody have sound/commercials coming out of their computer speakers even if nothing is running???
Addendum to the above post: I was sitting at my computer just now when the radio came on so loud I was sure my deaf husband would hear it. Not at all, not even at breakfast TV levels. Then I was standing in the hallway and I felt a metallic feeling in my fillings and heard that high-frequency sound (like when you're tuning in an analog radio) kinda reverberating in my jaw. The closer I was to the electronics, the louder it got.

I told hubby and he said he'd believe that more. I've heard of people having this problem, but really? Would it come on that fast? More research to do. By the way, the radio station is actually pretty good; it's just hard to deal with in the middle of the night.

Since earplugs make little difference, I'm inclined to give this some thought. If this is true, does it mean it IS all in my head? Literally....

More later....

Re: Anyobody have sound/commercials coming out of their computer speakers even if nothing is running???
I have heard radio stations coming through my stereo speakers when not tuned in to radio. I have heard faint voices through my cordless phone.

As far as random sounds or ear ringing, I always have some white noise going in the house--usually a fan, especially when I sleep. Sometimes I listen to a TV show or recording to fall asleep.

We live in noisy times. You have to adapt.

OMG, don't you all realize that this is a computer virus/adware issue. Couldn't get it off and had to reformat my hard drive to get it rid of it. It's some pretty hardcore stuff...got down into the low level programming. If you think you get it off the first time...it comes right back at ya. Good luck to you all.

Yep, my computer was infected from GLP a while back. I had to run a bunch of virus programs to get rid of it. I had all kinds of nonsense coming thru my computer speakers.
It represents my belief in personal freedom and my sense of individuality.

What is this! Shitload of mashed potatoes day?
