Re: The question nobody is asking about this oil spill in the gulf...
Those numbers come from me thinking about it. Original thought is a scientific process. You should try it sometime.
 Quoting: SubarcticBeef

A scientific process would be if you had real numbers ... maybe you imagination is just not big enough.

Im open to the abiotic process ... but numbers are needed.

In the end it doesnt matter at all for our generation... wether biotic or abiotic it still takes aeons to form it.

Again, we (scientists) don't know how long it takes for oil to form.

No, your reply is about the most stupid thing we've read all day. The only ones who sell peak oil are the ones who control oil. Then people like you are the ones that buy it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 631426

I have not mentiones peak oil in a single post ... I was taling about the origin of oil, not how much is left (actually I think plenty is left, there is no peak oil IMO). Learn to read ... I thought my english was bad.

Most oil, they believe, is from trees and plantlife in the Carboniferous period about 360 mya.
 Quoting: El D 747284

Have you ever seen dead plant or animal material migrate downward through the ground intact?
Plant material breaks down into dirt, right there at the surface, and piles upwards.
Animal remains are usually eaten and/or rotten away quite fast.
Fossils only form when rare disasters completely bury and smother an area as in a landslide or epic flood, and are actually quite rare.
Your theorized "fossil fuel" should be, also.

Listen, I can't explain the thoughts or mathematics that go on in my head, much less put them on paper. It comes from years of reading and combining my own ideas with other sources of information. This is just my conclusion, and you have a right to disagree with me. And you're not a stupid fucker.

I don't believe oil is a fossil fuel.

That must be the most stupid thing I read here all day.

>>I notice that you cut out the portion of the quote where the abiotic method of oil production is summed up... funny that you did that...

Of course oil is produced by a abiotic process ... in Europe we learn that in the 2nd year in school ... and that abiotic process takes hundreds of thousands of years ... that's why every school-kid knows that oil is a fossil fuel.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 964708

Do you even know what "abiotic" means?

I was confusing it with anearobic first ... bad english ... the theorywe learn here is that anerobic bacteria decomposed the organic matter together with pressure to oil.

But the theorys by Thomas Gold are interesting, I'm going to research them further.

Sorry for being rude in posts before.

its great when that happens, makes you think, changes a lot really.

the method that produces oil in 4 years used heat and thus pressure on sealed containers that had organic material placed in them..

I can well Imagine that that should work.

There is so much to learn about all this.

Afterall I actually dont like the idea that oil might be there for much longer than estimated (peak oil) ... not because I beleive peak oil, in fact I think its bogus and no matter how oil is formed ...
BUT: The sooner oil would run out the sooner we would switch to more star-trek like sources of energy and put more effort into researching them ... like fusion and stuff. Human inertance often needs a little push so we develop new things.

Re: The question nobody is asking about this oil spill in the gulf...
So, for years and years, we have been warned about peak oil... we have been told that the oil is running out...

And NOW we are being told that the oil spill will cover the entire Gulf of Mexico in less than 4 months...

The QUESTION is... WHERE did all this oil come from? How many dinosaurs does it take to produce enough oil to cover the entire Gulf of Mexico in less time than it takes to conclude a court case?
 Quoting: Sinanju2

Consider if you will, the Earth as a living entity. (And She is.)

What might the oil actually be?

What if fact might the Seas be?

Could the ground be "skin"?
Trees hair?

Humans may just be a parasite.

This is not a lot of oil in terms of peak oil or anything like that, but the oil slick is very thin and spreads out very easily
 Quoting: Fool 902341

Bullshit. this is the largest oil well ever drilled. Contains several BILLION barrels. Would change the oil balance of power if it had gone on line.

A huge oil well heretofore would have been around 400 million barrels. To have one with 4-5 billion barrels in it is simply inconceivable to the oil barons.

Lots of reasons for sabotage.
And actually that is prolly the smallest one.
