Elena Kagan's Goldman Sachs "Connection"

"Paul Campos may be right to worry that Elena Kagan's track record doesn't suggest much about her judicial philosophy. And Senate inquisitors may unearth issues that some find will troubling during Kagan's upcoming Supreme Court confirmation hearings. But we're not even there yet and already the knives are coming out - but not from the right. It's the left that's going after the White House's nominee.
Serving as a very capable kvetcher-in-chief, Salon's Glenn Greenwald, has assembled a bill of particulars that sum up the some of the doubts heard from the left about Kagan's suitability to replace Justice John Paul Stevens. (Greenwald has a more in-depth critique of Kagan here.

I don't have any personal passion for or against Kagan's nomination, but frankly, some of the complaints are, at best, borderline.

Let's focus on the most explosive and, I think, the most ludicrous: Her supposed "connection" to Goldman Sachs. Greenwald links to Digby, who links to USA Today -gotta love those links - which notes that Kagan received $10,000 in 2008 for serving as a member of the Research Advisory Council of the Goldman Sachs Global Markets Institute. Well, as the noted constitutional scholar and former New Jersey Nets forward Derrick Coleman was wont to exclaim on occasion, whoop-de-damn-do. Fact is that the "Digby" post offers nothing in the way of evidence that points to a nefarious connection. Read a little further, though, and you'll find the author's real point: "I think Supreme Court confirmation battles are ideologically instructive for the nation and are one of the few times when it's possible for people to speak at length about their philosophical worldview. Liberals have to stop running from this. Allowing the other side to define us is killing us."

An interesting book: "The Politician" by Robert Welch, founder of the John Birch Society - itself quite possibly a Communist front organization posing as anti-Communist, but a good read full of things to look up in Wikipedia.

The President

The purpose of Eisenhower for his bosses was to get the Republican Party destroyed without fear of appearing to have had any hand in its destruction. The final blocking of Joe McCarthy was accomplished by a Democratic Congress during the Republican presidency of Eisenhower. Eisenhower did his level best to screw with his own team and put a Democratic Congress in place to block Joe McCarthy.

Eisenhower's primary task and obsession in the years right after World War II was with the demobilization of the American armed forces as rapidly as possible. This made Stalin the sole military in mobilization, which allowed the communist bloc to throw its weight around, resulting in massive gains across the world.

The Communists are well known for making "vanguard groups", such as "Republican Advance", created in 1950. Then, in 1952, the "Citizens for Eisenhower" group was organized. All of these groups were riddled with known communists.

This way, Stalin could both be saying the Republican Party from within and repurposed it for his own nefarious ends -- a zombie for Stalin's interests.

The Eisenhower era was the beginning of farm subsidies! Farmers began receiving government payments for crop failures on land where they were paid not to grow any crops at all. Government-owned land was leased to private operators. These private operators were given more money under the soil bank provisions for letting it lie idle than they were paying rent to the government. It was a pew or scam.

The total effect of this was to destroy American farming. The federal subsidies of one kind or another wound up accounting for one half of total USA farm income. Ever larger appropriations for defense simply went to waste in the spending of billions of dollars as to mark a deliberate US intention to squander beyond question.

All of this wasted money was simply in Stalin's best interests. The colossal wastefulness is cleverly planned by sinister forces. Huge federal budget deficits are also in Soviet interests. Adding debt to the United States is a strategic priority, especially when that debt is to a communist country like China as it is today!

Eisenhower extended unemployment compensation. He expanded Social Security, adding 10 million people to the rolls. Expansion of federal government payrolls -- new agencies, millions of new workers -- included the addition of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. The goal was also to make the states completely subordinate to the federal government. This was accomplished by "grant-aid".

State governments would turn over their tax bases to Washington, and then be doled out funds and appropriations in kind. The federal government grew elaborately and intricately intertwined with state government.

The peace treaties that Eisenhower signed with the North Koreans were terrible. In addition, American soldiers were slaughtered as prisoners of war by the North Korean communist without Eisenhower letting out a peep. Eisenhower did absolutely nothing to get our soldiers returned. He tried to get most of the American people to forget they existed.

Every little failure of Eisenhower played so vividly in the Communist world. They gloated in their media about how we could only lose. The Communists proceed everywhere on the theory that if you seem to be winning, if you can make enough people think you are winning, then you are winning.

Sheer prestige is critical on the continent of Asia. Having our soldiers as prisoners of war helped the Chinese communists increase their prestige with their own enslaved subjects and with all of the other people in Asia. Meanwhile, we mistreated their prisoners of war, deliberately, just like our troops did at Abu Ghraib. Just let the Chinese communist pretend that they were the civilized ones, and that we were the barbarians! More massive propaganda victories piled at the feet of Mao and Joseph Stalin.

A study of diplomacy during the Eisenhower administration shows a clear plan on the part of Eisenhower and our State Department to increase the prestige of the Kremlin and simultaneously wear down America's own prestige. As Time magazine wrote, "at Geneva, the communist got precisely what they suck; a vast slice of Indochina, and formal recognition of their military conquests and their illegal communist state.

Eisenhower put on a good act, but he was a total traitor, not just a fool.

Additionally, Eisenhower failed to back up the French when they were surrounded in their fortress by communists in North Vietnam. Several Soviet satellite nations had rebellions and uprisings during the Eisenhower presidency, and the United States did not lift a finger to help them -- in East Germany, Hungary, or Poland. The Soviet tanks crushed each of these revolutions.

Washington was given information by secret agents about coming uprisings, but they did nothing at all. Until a rebellion makes headway, it is doomed. The anti-Communists we didn't support were slaughtered by the thousands. Russian tanks with Mongolian crews rolled through the streets of Budapest!

Eisenhower helped the Russians ram a terrible treaty down the throat of Austria. Then he glorified the treaty to the American people as some great big coup for the west. This victory was also credited to the generosity of the Russians and a new spirit of goodwill. Eisenhower insisted on immediate ratification of the treaty by Congress, and drove it through using White House pressure.

The Kremlin adheres to "gradualism" in its plans for world conquest. The Kremlin never goes too far too fast. They look objectively at the whole panorama of actions and their own opportunities to react.
