Probably certain parts will be relative safe zones and other parts will fall to extreme crime and mayhem.

What are the chances of people abandoning city living and go back to growing crops and living off the land?

I really dont know but I think allot of people will band together and form community's and try to make attempt at getting back to basics and try to form somkind of cohesive civilized way of living.

Theres going to be allot of familys and they are going to need to find some way taking care of themselves probably see allot of civil servants included in this group, cops, firemen, community leaders, teachers etc.

Your going to have very divided disconnected groups of people, many will be nomads and some will be marauders and others will just lose their minds and suffer greatly.

Its going to be a terrible trying time for all of us.Just pray and hope that we can get through it.

I read in the history books in NZ,that there were mass rioting during 1929-1933 and that the military were ordered to shoot on sight at the rioters

Lets hope cooler heads prevail than those times but its still not out of question, its the fabric of society un raveling and allot of people will be panicking and looting robbing murdering and just total mayhem.

The military and law enforcement will be trying to keep order and power and will do whatever it takes, its going to be ugly times I cant see it being anything but that.

Re: Will the cities become uninhabitable if the economic crash has happened?
No, I don' think the cities will become uninhabitatble, just potentially very dangerous, but anyone living in the cities now already knows that.

Communities will become very important, as many people (non GLP'ers) will have no where else to go, and striking out for the armed countryside may not be an option, especially for those who do not have the funds to drive. People will garden, use every available inch of property for growing food (like they did during the bombing of London in England), form tighter community ties, maybe even have their own neighborhood protectors if things look dicey. At least that is my hope. I do know this, if food shortages begin to occur, the cities that service the major rail lines will still get deliveries. Those not near a major city may not do so well, and you may be on your own. Look at the history of the great depression in the US----people don't change that god awful much, and what happened then will happen again, given the same circumstances.

my 2 cents. not very doomful I know, but the best thing that you can do right now if you live in the city is to get out and get to know your neighbors NOW. Form the ties NOW. DOn't wait. I talking simple human ties. People are less likely to shoot you if they know who you are. Even a cat won't kill a mouse that it has accepted into its group.

You can't grow food in the cities, the water supplies will be cut off. They will miagrate to country family if they have them. the rest will scavange, and use what avalabel force they have on hand.

People from cities will not be able to grow crops.
They don't know how. They don't have the stamina.
No one will be able to grow crops for a period of two years,
probably starting about the summer of 2011, if the Iceland
volcanoes keep spewing.

Most seeds being sold now, will not produce seeds within the fruit they grow, that will produce another crop. They are specially treated by seed companies.

There are millions of acres all over the west, currently controlled by the US BLM. There is water. Perfectly survivable if you can hunt, and no one catches you.
Rambo types would have no problem. Moms with young kids
are in deep, deep shit, unless they are tougher than Rambo.

There are game wardens, but very, very few. Forest roads into
public lands are being bulldozed as fast as the feds can get it accomplished, right now, all over the west.

A good concealing campsite would look like this.
Between boulders on a slight slope, pine needles on a forest floor. It's important to cut the wind and have a log to roll
under in the event of helicopter overhead with heat sensors.

kitty Yeah.
Zec 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
Psa 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, [and] all the nations that forget God.
Jer 6:2 I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate [woman].
STOCK UP NOW. You should have at least 6 months worth of basics for every member of your household. Stay away from crowds when trouble starts, do not forget water storage, tobacco is worth more than gold or silver, and be kind to hungry children.
