OK, if we correlate what happens in the movie with actual events, we get :

1) Oil rig incident = Deep Horizon catastrophe
2) Plane crash = Polish plane crash
3) Subway train wreck = Russian subway explosion

This a miror image with chronology in reverse. Using that same logic, the hints for the next major event should be found before the scene where Nicolas Cage is watching the news on TV just around midnight. I recall seeing tigers twice before that scene. Once in a documentary that Caleb is watching in his bedroom and another one just before John (Cage) overfill his glass with scotch. The season depicted during the early scenes of the movie is Fall. Falling leaves everywhere.

Now, 2010 is the chinese year of the Tiger. This is the cover of 30 seconds to Mars latest album :

I'm thinking WAR in the Fall of 2010.

It is not the movies them selves but how people react to them and discuss them. As it has been pointed out by many in this thread, the props, the background, the music, etc. so many eyes are looking again and again at these movies; where a 5 years ago, you saw a movie and noticed things that seemed to be foreshadowing events? maybe, but maybe not; you couldn't go back and really go over a movie with a fine tooth comb and offer your findings to others for their comments and thoughts. It is like everything media is now reviewed over and over. I think it's amazing and very interesting.YouTube(5 years old!) has more viewers than prime time TV in America. Another trend: Teens spend more time texting than talking on the phone. I think people writing out their thoughts results in better communication and expression, especially if you are in a group of like minded people. And the quick feedback! There is some kind of perceptual shift happening and it is growing in momentum.
