They say they've spent $106 million. A Haitian goes in search of evidence that the money was spent to help Haitians. What about the other $344 million. The Red Cross says it has "long term" plans for that money. Long term plans when there are people going without food, water, medical care and basic tent housing. Isn't it about time some Red Cross people went to jail for fraud? PS: You have celebs like Jennifer Aniston to thank for helping raise all this fraudulent money as well. Thanks bitches. I know someone who works for FEMA and she said that millions and millions of dollars were missing, but they weren't allowed to talk about it. Hmmmmm...... |

The Red (double) Cross User ID: 900491 Canada 05/13/2010 11:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, Duh!!! They pulled the same routine in the days following 911 on their OWN people, so why do you think anyone else would fare any better. My fellow office workers thought I was being a bit of a stick-in-the-mud when I refused to donate to the Red Cross 911 Relief Fund. I explained to them that was because little or none of it will ever make it to the victims or families of that or any other disaster. That 95% of the donations will go to the administrators of the Red Cross. A few months later, one of my staff tearfully brought me a newspaper article that sadly proved I was correct. Apparently the Red Cross had ear-marked the great majority of the donations towards new facilities, vehicles, pay raises, etc. And don't even get me started on the part the Red Cross played in the torturous and expensive slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Haemophiliacs around the globe. The guy responsible was PROMOTED and sequestered away at their headquarters in Geneva (like a pedo-priest at the Vatican) and is now legally untouchable. Some things never change... I would never support this TERRORIST ORGANIZATION! |
Pilot_007 User ID: 742855 United States 05/13/2010 11:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | CBS) Four months after the earthquake, more than 1.5 million Haitians remain homeless. Many live amid utter devastation. Yet enough aid has been raised to give each displaced family a check for $37,000. So why are so many still going hungry and living under flimsy shelters? CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports the little known truth is, most of the $14.9 billion that's been donated will be used on long term projects to rebuild Haiti. Mark Weisbrot, a former economic consultant to Haiti, said, "The organizations that already have money, should be spending this right now. This is emergency relief.." To find out what has been spent so far, CBS News looked at five major non-profits: CARE, Catholic Relief Services, the Red Cross, the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund and the separate Clinton Foundation Haiti Fund. Only the Clinton-Bush fund and Clinton Foundation refused to answer our questions, despite repeated e-mails and phone calls. Their websites say they've received $52 million in donor dollars, and have spent only about $7 million: less than one-seventh. The other charities gave us breakdowns: The Red Cross has raised $444 million and spent about 25 percent ($111 million) of it, including $55 million for "emergency relief," such as food and kitchen items, and $42.9 million for shelter including tarps, tents and blankets. CARE has raised $34.4 million and spent about 16 percent ($5.75 million), $2.5 million of that on "shelter." And at Catholic Relief Services: of $165 million committed to Haiti, it spent no more than 8 percent ($12.2 million), including $2.5 million on food $1.28 million on emergency shelter. The charities argue they've already helped millions of people and would get criticized if they spent too much up front instead of addressing the long term. "At the same time we move quickly, we move also prudently with spending the funds so that we ensure that the investment is made prudently," said Gary Philoctete, CARE Assistant Country Directory Haiti. As head of the American Red Cross, Gail McGovern is well-aware of prior scandals where the Red Cross was accused of collecting money for one cause but spending it on another. "Can you tell the public today that every dime raised by the American Red Cross for Haiti will be spent on Haiti?" Attkisson asked. "Minus the nine cents overhead, 91 cents on the dollar will be going to Haiti," McGovern said. "I give you my word and my commitment. I'm banking my integrity, my personal sense of integrity on that statement." It's too soon to get the most detailed accounting. Each non-profit has its own policing mechanisms, like independent audits and advisory committees. They each say they can show with great precision where nearly every penny is going, but that will take time. Bill Canny leads Emergency Operations for Catholic Relief Services - which has spent the least proportionally of the charities we looked at. "Our donors don't just ask that we spend money quickly, they ask that we spend money on quality programs that are transparent," Canny said. With so many billions of dollars in the mix, one thing's clear. There's plenty to spend money on and no shortage of questions about how and when it will be used. |

I have seen waste, fraud and misappropriation of funds to a degree that would make most 3rd world countried wealthy. NO MORE until we help those at home. Last Edited by Hitndahedfred on 05/13/2010 12:25 PM Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. Last year we spend upwards of 2 grand buying food for the state and local food banks. Over time we have learned that cash donations do not go for their intended purposes. Since we know the food stuff will go for real individuals and families. |

Same with 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Rita, and now Sandy. |
