The pictures at the Boston Globe link broke my heart. I live in Florida, not far from the coast but my family's living isn't dependent on seafood or tourism. However, it has become painfully obvious, just this week, that this spill threatens to put the entire state of Florida underwater, completely, economically. And for those of you with "Banana Republic" or "good riddance" comments, remember that we are one of the largest states in the union, and one of the most important "produce baskets" in the union if not the world, and our ecosystem is on the verge of being completely decimated. Imagine life with no orange juice, strawberries, tomatoes, or Disney World. And of course, imagine tens of thousands of dead manatees and bottlenose dolphins...what have we wrought?
