How can this (oilspill) be happen?...terrorism???

That's a question that we'll most likely NEVER know the answer to.

If by terrorism you mean an attack by North Korean sub as was rumored the first few days, no. Could it have been sabotage? maybe

But that is an estimate of one video and some of that is gas..

Gas is worse than oil in overall outcome..Cant see it but much more devastating effects...

But even say they are off by 50%, that is 35 million gallons of oil...And a whole lot of gas...Out of ONE leak...

Wall Street Journal:

Transocean Ltd., the owner and operator of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig that burned and sank last month unleashing a massive oil leak into the Gulf of Mexico, will file in federal court Thursday a petition to limit its liability to just under $27 million, according to a person familiar with the company's plans and a copy of the filing reviewed by Dow Jones Newswires.

Greetings everyone,

It is important that we all step back, take a breath and calm down.

Being prepared for a disaster is not simply about how many cans of Tuna you have buried.

You have to adjust yourselves to how you intend to purposely act towards people.

Everyone deals with such matters differently but rest assured it will be cool heads that will prevail.

Think of a stampede. It starts with a mentality of panic and ends in death. If the same number of folks in the stampede were to calmly head for the door all would survive.

The is a lot of name calling and anger being spewed right now and that is not good. As things escalate, and they will, the name calling and anger will result in that deadly stampede.

There are many here that claim Christ yet are showing fear. Stop and pray on that and ask yourself why? If God is in charge, which is my firm belief, what can one possibly fear? The answer only is not being right with God. If one is right with God, BECAUSE of His Son Jesus Christ, it should show.

Remember;

"Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."

It will be ok. Don't rail upon those who may be in fear right now and acting out. Help them don't cuss them out. Make a friend of an enemy and you will have one less enemy and one more friend.

Regards Y'all!

JimmyK

PS: I am by no means downplaying this. I am simply pointing to things we CAN do and asking folks to consider chilling on things they CANNOT do anything about.

Good thread, Scrump. This is the most important thing happening, in the most awful sense. We should have a pinned thread on it for the rest of internet history.

What is the doom?

this is the doom!!

The following day, the government — over public objections from BP — raised its estimate to 5,000 barrels a day. A barrel is 42 gallons, so the estimate works out to 210,000 gallons per day.

BP later acknowledged to Congress that the worst case, if the leak accelerated, would be 60,000 barrels a day, a flow rate that would dump a plume the size of the Exxon Valdez spill into the gulf every four days. BP’s chief executive, Tony Hayward, has estimated that the reservoir tapped by the out-of-control well holds at least 50 million barrels of oil.

this would be 2,520,000 gallons of oil a day!

I am on the east coast of FL, family on the west coast. Every year, we "game" the hurricanes to make sure we are on top of things and well prepared ahead of the panicky crowd. For a couple of weeks we have been in agreement that this is many times worse than the MSM would have us believe. What we are having a hard time doing is gaming the oil spill scenario. We have preps but preps aren't enough when there is worry about so many other disasters related to the oil volcano. Beyond preps/food/water, etc. how to prepare? Ideas? Other coastal residents?

PS We are not inclined to be "evacuees" rather we either get out well ahead of the crowd or we stay put.

West coast here .... staying is not an option.
Who will be here after the oil hits?
It will be unsafe on many levels.

I am leaving within 10 days. I hope I will be able to return but I am not betting on it. I am taking my important stuff, clothes, gold, guns and art.
